first off, are they vcd or svcd's?

unfortunately there is no way to add subtitles to a vcd or svcd once a disc has been burned(that I know of!).

if the movies are vcd, the subtitles has to be in the video stream.

But if the movies are svcd, the subtitles can be in the video stream(permanent) or external(able to turned off and on)which you turn on with the subtitle button on your dvd player. The catch with svcd external subtitles is not many dvd players support them.

The only way to add subtitles(this only applys to svcd, is to append an external subtitle to the mpeg and burn the movie again, and it's not as easy as it sounds, and if dvd player doesn't support svcd external subtitles it's a waste of time.

So I need to know more about the "vcd's"(the format, where you got them from e.g. p2p program, store, etc)you have before I can suggest anything.
