    Greatings to Afterdawn.com and members,
as am newly in this field of burning and copying movies and games, i have a questions and who has the knowledge kindly advise.

Is it possible to download a movie or copy DVD to my PC then burn it by CD-R in any format possible where then i can play it in my PlayStation 2?

I know it's quite strange question but i don't think technology can have a limit.

Of course your PS2 must be modchipped or it will NEVER accept non original software.
I never tried using it ths way (I have a DVD player), bu why don't you try burning a VideoCD? If is simple, inexpensive (simply, you'll need a CD for each 70' of movie). I suggest TMPGenc (very very good piece of software) to prepare the correct MPEG (PAL/NTSC) from your starting movie (.AVI, .MPG) and, then, VCDeasy to build the image of the VideoCD / Burning it directly (only if your computer accepts CDRDAO: otherwise use 'cd image recorder' as VCDEasy recorder and, then, Nero, CDRWin, Alcohol 120% atc. to burn the resulting BIN/CUE).
    Got it?

To the best of my knowledge, PS2 will only play backups made to a DVD(+\-)R(W). I tried playing a SVCD, VCD but no luck.
