Yes, you can backup an identical copy on a DL disk, but you need to be sure to have the latest firmware for your burner, use DVD Decrypter for both ripping and burning, use +R DL media, and set the booktype to DVD-ROM so your standalone can read the burned DL disk. Tell us your burner brand and model number and the firmware version. You can get this info from DVD Decrypter, DVD Identifier, and Nero Info Tool, as well as with many other programs. We can then help you update your firmware and enable the booktyping. The firmware version will be the number or combo of numbers and letters usually after the name of the burner that is displayed.
the burner i have is liteon-sohw1693sx i been using i copydvd2 works great for me will that work.what does booktype mean.i have asecond dvd burner can i read with one burn with another.please help
Here's the link to your latest firmware version: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces For that drive it is KSOB. Booktyping is only possible when using +R discs. +R's have an extra area to write data to that is not normally used when burning movies. When you bootype, you are writing data to this area that tricks your DVD player into thinking that it is reading a DVD-Rom (store bought DVD). Booktyping can be done through DVD Decrypter after the current firmware is installed, by doing the following. then click on the picture of the open book. Select your litey and the media that you wish to change the booktype for. Then select the DVD-Rom booktype. Click on OK, and you should be in business. Of course you can use one to read and one to write.

I'm not sure what your problem is. Are you getting errors ripping the disk or while burning the disk?
