i downloaded a movie off of kazaa its 3 avi's and each are about 150mb, how do i convert them into vcd or svcd? when i try to use any of the programs like tmpeng but when i load on the avi file it says that its not of the right format. then i got a decompressing program now each movie was 460mb and still the same messages about not being the right type or right sound rate.

Just remember that what you download, is what you get. Whoever ripped these files hopefully did a superior job. I recommend you use DVD2SVCD to convert avi (divx) to SVCD as VCD video quality sucketh big time. A tutorial provided by ChickenMan (my post) is around here somewhere... Shoey
I couldn't agree more! Instead of re-encoding and loosing some quality I get SVCD releases if they are availible and if not then I get the divx/xvid and use DVD2SVCD with CCE SP and the quality is usually good on the output. Everything should be fine as long as you download download tmd stuff!
I agree with Dela on this issue but sometimes you can't find the right format (SVCD) to download a particular movie. If you encounter this often and find rips in DivX or AVI then there should be at LEAST 2 or more files and the first should be roughly around 700 mb's or a litte higher (DivX, AVI, XVid). If you see such smaller files, personally I don't recommend even downloading. Look for SVCD format and there should be 2 or more files as well. Should you have to convert AVI2SVCD, definatly go with DVD2SVCD (CCE encoder). Shoey
I usually get 2 xvid files 700mb each and often have ac3 audio aswell I think the lesson to learn is dont use kazaa to download movies!
What do you use to download movies then?? I've never seen anything larger than 800MB for a dvd rip and only one file not two.
Program to download movies? P2P file sharing clients like eDonkey, eMule, Direct Connect. Every movie I've backed up (USA) is mostly recorded in AC3 (6/2 channel) to SVCD. I've yet to test the DTS on the latest DVD2SVCD 1.1.2 to see if the audio will playback on pc, home dvd player as well. Shoey
