I have copied old vhs tapes to make dvds but the tapes are
old and on the bottom of the tapes theres is some movement which I would like to eliminate.
Is there a free program to cut off a little bit of the bottom of the clips.
    Thank you

I assume this is head noise from the VCR.

Playing on a CRT TV set, the noise shouldn't show.

If it shows on an LCD set, you could add some black over the noise instead of cropping and resizing.

If it's now DVD format:eek:pen VTS_01_1.VOB in Avidemux.

Use the settings shown on the left side of the screen and the filter setting to cover the noise.
Save the file with a full name (including extension) newfile.mpg

Note that if you wish to author the output as a new DVD, the authoring program should not encode the file (If using DVD Flick, click 'Project Settings' > Video' > 'Advanced' > 'Copy MPEG2 Streams'.

Hiiiiii I thought it was a great idea to make it black.
So I downloaded the new avidemux you gave me and I got a file and the first thing it said was this looks like mpeg do you want to index it so I said yes.
    I hope that was right.
Then I went to video and tried to do what I understood,
I tried everything but couldnt find where to put the black bottom in it says black borders but then I stopped. Also the avidmux I downloaded looks different then what you sent me.
I had an old one on but downloaded the new one.
I need please some baby steps but it looks just what I would like to do.
Is it possible to email you direct if yes please tell me how if not thank you so much for helping me anyway
    Be well
    EMa

In the Filter Screen, double click on the 'Blacken Borders'
The pop-up lets you insert values - then OK.

On the right under 'Active Filters', where it lists 'Blacken Borders', highlight it and click on the preview button.
Use the slider to seek through the movie and verify that the noise is hidden.
You can change the value by highlighting clicking on the the entry (on the right side of the window) again.

I'm using V2.4.3 it's listed here under old versions.

    Hiiiiiiii thank you
It worked I high lighted it and changed te value to 6 then I hit preview and got a pop up box
    a fatal error has occurred
clik ok to generate debug information. this may take a few minutes to complete.
I hit ok and everything dissapeared so I did it again I got INcorrect parameters. I think Its because I used an uneven no.
All parameters must be even and within range.
So I tried it again a few more times and I am up to 10 and the the black line is on the bottom but the noise is being pushed up and I still see it.
The clip I am using says vc08336a.mpg. Is that okey
The clip that I have that says vts_01_1.vob dosent have the frazzle on the bottom.
Anyway so far I am making some progress so that is good I just dont know so far how to cover the noise. What am I doing wrong
THanks so much for your helping me
    Ema

    .

There's 'Add Black Borders' and 'Blacken Borders' - you must use the second one.
The first one adds a border to the existing frame.
The second one covers up the existing frame.
