try doing a CRC check. download dvdinfo.com (free) from www.dvdinfopro.com and use it to check for corruption on that disc. of there are any bad blocks it helps pinpoint the root cause. if the disc comes up with no errors, there's probably not an actual problem with the disc. another program to try is vso inspector - see here for details - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/246863. let us know how you get on....it's always worth finding the root cause...otherwise the real problem may yet bite you on the bum with those rewritables...
This may be worth noting as well ... I burn by shrinking first (making an ISO), then using Decrypt to burn. I don't know if that's how it's usually done, but that's worked for me. This has happened to two burns now, by the way (don't think it's the individual disc). It's weird b/c they work great with the Verb DVD+RWs. ON WHAT YOU SAID: "CRC check from www.dvdinfopro.com" -site must be down for the night. I don't think it's the disc (S). "vso inspector" I don't know if this is what it is ... (?). Actually I know some stuff, but not what you're looking for. i use a Sony burner for my YUDEN000T02s as well, and i happen to burn them @8x~ but, that's not my point...i THINK that there might be an issue with your stand alone dvd player, have you cleaned the laser/lens recently? might not be a bad idea to do so based on the problems you have been having while there COULD be some "tinkering" you can do with your burn process, sometimes you may have perfectly good media but your standalone is giving you playback issues...after running the CRC check, the media issue SHOULD be laid to rest, the results will be THERE to show you if in fact, the media is the problem or not~ so i can assume you are burning @4x? i wouldn't burn lower than that to be honest with you, especially NOT on TY 8x rated media, from my experience w/ Taiyo Yuden, the scans on burns LOWER than 4x have proven to be quite poor...the SLOWEST i EVER burn on TY media now is 4x...but, on these 8x dvd+r media, i usually burn @8x, not saying YOU should, but it works very well for me and MY setup` good luck... docTY~

Again - I have never had a problem burning to my Verbatim DVD+RWs. The DVD player has never f-ed up to those. It's just EVERYTHING else I burn. OH -- and I burn at whatever it's at...no less than 4 -- that was the first No. that popped in my head. I could be at 8x.
your FIRMWARE is wayyyyyyyyyyy outta date...go here for the newest one: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1597 1.1a, dl and then flash...GOOD chance everything will be just fine after this is completed properly..i have a feeling it's THE FIRMWARE issue that is holding you back right now and giving your troubles... docTY~
HUH? I never heard of this... I opened the link -- just hit the "1.1" by the "RED NEW" ??? I don't want to f- up my system -- like the page says: "These pages are only for advanced users. Bad flashing could destroy your drive definitively. Read carefully the installation notes of your firmware before you upgrade. The Firmware Page and the drive manufacturer can't be responsable on REMEMBER: This is at your own risk!!!!" I'm out of my league now. What do I download?
@niceum - you're in good hands there.. ..just don't reset pc when you start the firmware update, or power off or mess with the pc, and provided you don't have a powercut, the firmware update is quick and painless..
yes, u just click on the "1.1a" next to "red new" as you put it...download the file onto your computer and then upgrade the firmware... one IMPORTANT NOTE: after you download and run the program, Sony's flasher is very simple and straight forward, so, just follow the prompts it gives you...just MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT POWER DOWN YOUR COMPUTER DURING THE FLASHING PROCESS, this is what that "warning" was to kinda "scare" you about... also, make sure there are NO DISCS inside your burner when you update the firmware...other than that...just download...run the program (it's an .exe file) the little screen will come up...it will tell you the current firmware and then what it will flash to...just make sure you don't lose power during the flashing process...and there is nothing in your drive (meaning media)...and it will "process"...and after a few minutes...it will ask you to reboot your computer after it's "completed" or "flash successful", then you reboot and you are done~ it's pretty simple...just make sure you follow the 2 things i stated before doing this... [bold] 1. do not cut off power during flash 2. do not have media inside drive during flash [/bold] that's it~ if you follow the instructions EXPLICITY, you will NOT f' up ur computer...Sony's own flashing utility is very basic, but it does the job in a few minutes time... good luck docTY~
YEah - I clicked on the 1.1 NEW ... downloaded and hit the OK.. 1/2 second later it did what it did (I GUESS ... 1/2 second, did it do what it did? I don't know). You said minutes -- it took 1/2 second and didn't ask to reboot.
oops i forgot to mention to not leave a disc in the drive. actually the other day i had an oops and forgot to take a disc out the drive while updating firmware and luckily it didn't break. but hey, i got lucky that time
uhm..."did what it did" ????????? the flashing process DOES take more than a 1/2 second... you obviously downloaded correctly, now you need to run the ".exe" file on the flash program~ it takes a few min. to actually "flash" your drive...so, you're 1/2 way there~ please re-read the steps i outlined just above this last post of yours...i can't explain it any more clearly than that... docTY~
I'll break down what I did. -Downloaded FW510a11a.exe -opened it -a little box saying DRU-510A Firmware UPdater on top INSTALL DIRECTOY _______ REFERENCES(it was defaulted at mydoc/media (where I downloaded the thing) I hit OK and that was it 1/2 second then NOTHING.
Do I need to change the "references" directory to it's own folder? In this box - there is a check box for 2 things Start menu Set Class But no option to check them
did it prompt you to select WHICH drive you would like to update? your SOny dru-510a SHOULD be selected as THE drive to update...hmmm...
ok, i just downloaded YOUR firmware update package so i can see for myself what is going on...hehe...yes, create a new folder for the "install directory" when prompted...
Done -- it worked ... I'll try burning day after tom -- again and see if it works smoothly tomorrow. Thanks for you help -- I'm going to bed.
