You need to have a video card that can output HDMI. The radeon HD4350 (cost 40.00) has an hdmi output built-in. Next all you would do is connect a HDMI cable from the computer to your TV. I have this video card and it is a very good card for the price.
This will turn your LCD into one big monitor. You will be able to watch movies surf the net etc on your TV.
Some TV's actually have VGA inputs (my olevia 27 inch lcd has them), you can use that instead of HDMI. but VGA won't transmit an audio signal, you would need to use your PC speakers. So check your TV, if it has a VGA input, you don't need to buy a video card.
HDMI on the other hand will transmit both video and audio through the cable.

If you want to watch TV through the computer you need a tuner card (hvr 1600 or similar). Then you can hookup the dishtv to your pc tuner card and watch/record tv on your PC.

I have the 512mb card. I don't know if the 1gb will show any difference.
