how can you tell in store the manufacturer for a particular brand media? i was looking at a spindle of verbatim 16x +R and couldn't tell the manufacturer after looking over the entire package several times. i dont want to spend 10 to 20 bucks to find out it wasnt mcc. thanks.
All verbatim are made by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp whether they're made in Taiwan, Japan, Singapore etc..
Verbatim DataLife DVD+R 2.4x (CMC MAG.R01) Verbatim DataLife DVD+R 4x (RICOHJPNR01) Verbatim DataLife DVD-R 2x (CMC MAG. AF1) Verbatim DataLife DVD-R 2x (CMC MAG.AF01) (from the sticky) so that stuff no longer exists? also, is there a way to tell after all? there seem to be a lot of brands that use different manufacturers for the same type media. like sony and fujifilm have a few ty sprinkles, id like to know how to spot them, if possible, before actually buying them.
i think this is why most ppl here buy online? for verbatims afaik the metal AZO are the MCC ones wheras the none AZO are CMC
i'm happy to buy Verb's online as (so far that i know of) they haven't been faked by anyone. One of the reasons why i (boringly maybe) stick to them.

does that mean that the sony and fuji discs that are ty or mcc would have to have azo in them also? if so, then i guess thats the way to tell in store, assuming that the package lists the material of the disc...
I had heard that verbatim dvds were only made by Mitsubishi CC now. I thought it was true since I was seeing less and less of the other stuff and figured it was just what was left in circulation. Does anyone know for sure if anyone else is still making discs for verbatim? As far as in store Fuji and Sony discs, I buy the ones that say [bold]made in japan[/bold]. These seem the most reliable to me regardless of who made them(Sony,Ricoh, Taiyo Yuden, etc.)
" All verbatim are made by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp whether they're made in Taiwan, Japan, Singapore etc.." Doesen't necessarily mean they are the same quality, as I am having quality issues with the Verbatims I got in a 100pk from newegg recently...which to me would indicate a bad batch, or perhaps a batch from one of those other countries you mentioned.

Also, the Verbatim #95058 DVD-R 16x that I bought from Supermedia Store a couple of weeks ago: DVD01X0239 are MCC03RG20. *Note that they are not labeled as DataLife or DataLifePlus, but do say "Advanced AZO" (notice the absence of the word "metal" in that label).
@jpcm - As long as they are Verbatim you will be ok. There's a thread somewhere that has more info. Found a couple - http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/6155.cfm & http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/185388
@ creaky you are a SEARCHING MASTER~! i was the one mainly responding to that thread and i vaguely even remember it~ i spent a lot of time researching on verbatims during that time earlier this month/late last month...but, wow, you brought it back up for others to learn from~ im seriously impressed anyways, i can tell the Verbs are working well for you, im actually completely done with the Verbs i bought from that sale last month in that other thread, they work flawlessly for me, despite the debate whether they are datalife plus/AZO/MCC...etc..etc.. just go with what works right? and if it doesn't work...THEN fix it~ good day to you buddy~
i have my moments!. you know me, what i lack in direct 'experience' in something (ie i haven't used 16x yet or whatever), i try to make up for with a dose of search/copy/paste. (I'm notorious for not recognising something i'd written the week before). But as long as i can find info & skim-read it enough to re-register the memory i post it. Now if only i could keep all this stuff in my head longer! That review of the 16x was a good read btw
Thanks for the links, Creaky! True, there is enough review and user feedback about the Verb 16x to support their quality. Ive had zero problems with my limited burning with them. Plus, they are on sale at supermediastore.
