How Do I Best Edit miscellaneous Videos ?

I have a few to shorten a good bit & then save on a DVD.

I have tried Nero Recode, but it won't save my edits.

    Other specifics appreciated.

    Thanks, M8

For avi, you can use the free avidemux to do frame accurate editing with no reencoding required. It has a limited ability to edit mpegs, it won't edit vob's unless you convert them to mpegs first with a different converter.

The best program to edit mpegs/vobs is videoredotvsuite, it is frame accurate and edit's without reencoding. This program can edit a complete dvd (video_ts) folder, removing scenes etc. When you save it, it takes less then 10 minutes to complete the editing and the new dvd will have no loss of quality.

Both programs are mostly editers, they won't create menu's/transitions etc. But if you want frame accuracy with no loss in quality that is the programs to use.

For editing DVD I would use Mpeg Video Wizard DVD. It let you edit with cuts, transition and more. Will export DVD with menu.
