    Hi jetyi,

First you have to rip the DVD, that is, to copy it to your hard disk. Use DVD Decrypter or SmartRipper (both free). You'll get a set of VOB files, which are some kind of MPEG files.

The easy way is NVE (NeroVision Express, shipped with Nero 6). Import the VOB file, cut everything but the clip(s) you want and finally export it as low quality MPEG. But NVE is not the best MPEG encoder around...

    The hard way is:
    1) Demux the VOB files into MPEG files. IfoEdit or VobEdit may help you.
    2) Extract the clip(s) you want out of the MPEG files with VirtualDubMod (free) or Adobe's Premiere or any MPEG-capable video editor.
    3) Encode the edited files to MPEG-1 or -2 with TMPGEnc (free for MPEG-1), CCE Basic (60 $) or QuEnc (free).

    Enjoy.

huh.. ill try and figure it out..

i actually got it done but with all different software so now im confused about what you were tryin to tell me. The hard way sounded kinda hard.

i can get snips of vob files. I just need to know which free software will convert them best, while being able to make fine tuning edits. I got some software but im only on the trial now. Im tryin to check out ifoedit but its confusing
