    Hi

As I am quite new to all this, I am downloading movies from BitTorrent etc.
    Just home movies, of course
Convert them from avi to iso
But some are awful quality when I burn them onto dvd.

Is there any advice for what to look for?
Or just go for the largest files as they hopefully should be best quality...

    All advice welcome

Generally larger files are better quality, but not always. After a while you'll start to recognize the names of release groups who are known for better quality. You can go to vcdquality.com for ratings and sample JPG's. Some bittorent sites like mininova.org and torrentportal have ratings and comments with the release. And lastly, many releases include samples. Use a client like utorrent to quickly DL the sample only! If it looks good, get the whole file. You can also use utorrent to DL pieces of other kinds of files like individual songs, if you dont want a whole album. Good Luck![img

Quality really comes down to the source and the encoding. If the source was crappy, it doesn't matter how well encoded and how big the output is. It will still be crappy. Where as a nice clean source, encoded properly could look excellent at a small size.

Generally people will use the best source available, which just leaves whether they know how to encode and what output they were aiming for (obviously a 2CD DVDRip has more potential than a 1CD one).

Best available changes over time though (and old releases may float around (as well as having more seeds)). Could be that DSR is the best one month and HDTV the next or CAM-->TS-->R5-->DVD.
