all the guides i have looked at say you need to insert a floppy to install win-2000. the laptop i am trying to install a fresh copy of win-2000 has no floppy port. how can i do the whole installation from a cd? I don't have the password to get into windows. its an ancient machine with 128M of ram .89 Ghz Pentium 3. i just want to use it to surf the net thats it. would i be better off with windows ME?
Windows 2000 should install no problem without a floopy boot disk. All the 2000 installs i've done have not needed a boot disk because the cd boots itself... Just make sure you change the boot order to boot CD drive first in your bios...
There is a linux based freeware password reset iso you can download & burn to rom to reset windows password, usually best to set to none,i can't find the disk i made to get the website for it,it's open source, not sure if it works on all versions, however as engage has said win2000 is bootable from cd
This might help to reset the password... http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ I missed that part.
