Can anyone please help with the above. I presume that I plug in the ribbon and away I go. There are no spare ribbon connectors. Can I buy something that will allow me to plug in to one and have additional ribbon connectors. There is an audio cable where does this go to and from.
Your computer has a primary and a secondary channel. Each channel can have up to 2 devices. Cables can have 1 connector (Master) or 2 connectors (Master/Slave). If your cable has only one connector and you need two, you can buy one at any computer store. Thanks for the reply. This was a friends computer and from memory there were 3 plugd on his mother board. one was marked system and went to his hard drive, the second went to his floppy drive and the third went to his cd writer and then on to his dvd/cd player. He is trying to add a dvd writer. What ribbon shoul dhe connect to. Thanks again Frank
Hello, I assume you have a master/slave ribbon, from your comments. When installing a second drive you must change the jumper setting on the back of the drive. Say your cd writer is the master your dvd burner would be the slave drive. After installing check to see your drives with my computer.
Sorry, I didn't know you had a cd rom also just a cd writer. Do you have room for a third drive? you could remove the cd rom and install the dvd burner, or slave off the harddrive with a slave/master ribbon cable. I would remove the cd rom and install the dvd burner myself, but if you want all three I would make the cd rom a slave with the harddrive, and then have the cd burner the slave and the dvd burner the master. Don't forget to check the jumpers on the back.
