This Sony page tells me how to Install some kind of updates for my DVD burner. http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/downloads/710FWBYX5/FirmwareBYX5Update.htm And I have DL the required files from here: http://www.cdr.cz/?dvd_rekordery/sony/dru710a.html So my updates went from BYS1 to BYS3 to BYS4 to BYS5. At each stage the soft confirmed the update was successful (I used the BYS*WIN.EXE in each case). On reboot I got New Harware installation Wizard saying it had found a new DVD drive plus a new CD drive ( ?I have a Sony CD burner and a DVD/CD burner ). So my DVD is now supposed to be fully upgraded but it still will not use the Maxell DVD-R's I have (it is not a DVD-R general issue as all my DVD burns to date have been on DVD-R) and I don't get a red LED on burning. So how can I tell if the updates were successful really? I can't see any difference otherwise. Total newbie at this.
Humm, yes that Prog just confirms BYX6, and that the burner is DVD - R compatible. So I don't know why it won't use the maxell DVDs or why the red LED is not showing when burning. I had thought (when I saw no difference) I should have upgraded stepwise BXY1, BXY2,BXY3,BXY4,BXY5 and BYX6 and spent several hours getting more and more confused about how to apply BINs EXE's to the DVD using even more programs. So when I saw these 'straight forward' exe's on sony's web I jumped at them.
Just noticed this should read "So my updates went from BYS1 to BYS3 to BYS4 to BYS6" I had BYS5 on the brain as that was supposed to intro the red LED thing. And its BYS not BYX. God I read so much about this Sony flashing thing my total confusion with this remains. I'm all confused.
