how do i put a avi onto a dvd and have it play in my dvd player?

i have a backup file of scarface on my hd and i want to put it on a dvd. how can i do this? but the file is also 770,000 to big for a dvd how can i compress this and put it on 2 disc (1 would be cool) and then burn it?
i can go out and buy whatever programs i need to do this so please tell me how you do this thanks!

 

770,000 what? MB, KB, B? If its 770MB then you can stick it on a CD. You can use TMPGEnc to convert avi to mpeg and TMPGEnc DVD Author to convert mpeg to VOB (DVD Format):

You also might try FlaskMPEG. It has a bbMPEG encoder that will encode audio and video separately and will give you the choice of multiplexing the audio and video files but I wouldn't recommend Multiplexing if you are putting it on a DVD to watch it on a DVD player. It even has preset settings so it doesn't require much thinking on your part.

 

on the tmpg program i cant get it to work right.... when i get the avi under the video part it tells me error. i can do it under audio but under video non of my avi files will work
