After I burn, there are balloons with "i's" in them, but I am not able to double-click or open them. I want to copy this log to forward to someone... Any help would be appreciated...
Can someone point me in the right direction concerning viewing/analyzing graphs to interpret the quality of burns? I think I read on here that a lot of people use DVDInfo. Hopefully, there's also a tutorial somewhere that can breakdown PI's, etc; and tell me what is fair, good, excellent, etc. So far, I am just burning and skipping through discs to see how they look... They look good so far, but I can't watch every burn in it's entirety, and I know the graphs, etc are more efficient... Thanks...
post your log here and we will try to help you out. Edit out your serial number too. It's the big number in the beginning. There's a proggy called Kprobe that will get your graphs you are looking for. As far as reading them though, your guess is as good as mine.
Do KProbe, DVDInfoPro, etc only work with certain drives? I tried using the disc quality test in CD/DVD Speed with Nero, but I didn't get any readouts. I did get the little curve graph on the first set of tests ( transfer rate, access/seek time, CPU usage, etc). @teflonmyk - i'm sure your name seems familiar - i must have replied to one or more of your posts methinks... Anyway, i saw the the words Nero log and PIF so thought i'd chip in (see my sig by the way for KProbe scans). KProbe i think is only really for Lite-on drives (my Sony is a rebadged litey so i'm ok), however nero cd-dvd speed i think produces similar graphs. I don't follow what you mean by balloons with i's in them, so forgive me if i state the obvious i'm just gonna go right thru the log and see what i can see - - firmware seems up to date - http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/service/support/article/0,,2076_4249_201803982,00.html - this is saying the media's outer edge is 4489MB, and you're attempting to write 4400MB to this disc, ie very close to edge of disc. If you use DVD Shrink, set the target size lower, i personally have mine permanently set to 4300MB, regardless of media used. - these 'appear' to be Taiyo Yuden discs of some description, but can't prove that just from this media code (see my sig for horror stories re MY problems with Bulkpaq TYG02 if you like). What exact brand did you buy ? - good grief why so fast, try a lower speed for better burns/successful burns - a few of these to me look like your burner is having trouble with that media - Nero would appear happy with this burn, but as i've pointed out above, there's a couple of things i'd tweak..
must agree with creaky. 12x burnspeed wow. slow is good 2.4x - 4x it's a case of the totoise and the hare.
Thanks for the info guys. Creaky, you saw my post when I was struggling with 1 Click DVD Copy. There are some issues with Copy to DVD, so, right now, I am ripping/compressing with 1 Click and burning with Nero. I have to find the area in 1 Click to adjust "Last address to be written." I am using the shiny silver top 8X -R TY's I got from SuperMediaStore.com. That was my first successful burn. I have been burning at 8X from that point on. Actually, those burns don't have any discernable flaws that I've seen from viewing them. BUT, I will definitely slow it down!!! I think I read somewhere in one of these forums that all drives do not support error reporting... Is that true? I know in Nero, when I do the Disc Quality Check, I don't get any info... Is there any software compatible with the DVR-109 (as far as error reporting)? Thank you guys for all of your input and help. I am looking for a way to see how good a burn is without sitting down and watching the movie!!! As far as tips and tweaks go- pour them on. I'm all ears!
@teflonmyk - i'll see if i can get someone who has burnt a mere one or two TY discs, to comment on the speed with which to burn TY's.. (my first batch of TY will be arriving today so i'm not qualified to comment further)...
has someone summoned me??? anyways, i have the same pioneer dvr-109 as you and i have used MANY TYs in the past and currently~ i PERSONALLY suggest you burn at 8x, with quality media such as genuine TYs (i don't feel the need to burn at 4x or slower because the media was MEANT for the rated speed by manufacturer and with countless "overburns" i have on Taiyo Yuden media, they will definitely hold up to the max manufacturer's rated speed)...i am assuming the ones you purchased from supermediastore are the 8x Taiyo Yuden shiny silver tops? i can burn these at 16x on my pioneer, which i HAVE, but, i just don't like to take that risk of possible burn errors due to the very high speed~ keep the burns at 8x if you have the 8x TY from supermediastore, if you purchased the 16x TYGO3s..then i can say you are safe with your 12x start speed~ i tried to "overburn" (meaning faster than suggested rated speed) the 4x TYGO1s from supermediastore and i have burned them perfectly at 8x and 12x, but, i can't quite get it up to 16x on the pioneer guess they weren't meant for THAT sort of speed increase~ anything past triple the rated speed is crazy media in my opinion~ anyways, to make a long story short, my 8x burns on the 4x TYG01 are flawless too, no playback issues and the quality is good. at the 12x speed, i saw SOME pixellation during the playback, but, that is completely natural since i tripled the speed of what it was intended for, i did it for fun just to see what would happen so, as long as you are using the ever so popular 8x TYs...you can safely burn them on that pioneer @ 8x with perfect playback, i have well over a thousand burned at 8x that are flawless on this media. i even burn my 4x dvd-r TYs @8x, i've tested about a dozen dvds at this speed with identical results as if i were to burn @4x~ also, when i burn dvds, i don't much multitasking in the background, i have found that when i have a lot of other things going on, it SOMETIMES affects the burn quality, not often, but SOMETIMES. hope that helps a bit~ my recommendations are based SOLELY on the assumption you are burning on the 8x TYs purchased from supermediastore~ if you bought the 4x dvd-r and are burning at 12x, i would DEFINITELY say 8x is safe, but, 12x is too fast~ good luck~
I think I had the burn speed set on maximum on that 12X burn. This Pioneer can burn 8X TY's at 12X. Looks like the consensus is 4X - 6X in the other forums (that is not specifically, TY though). I have a 50 spindle of the 8X TY's and 25 16X Verbs....
@kivory666. hi i don't want to give out misleading info. iv'e been using verbatim and ritek G04-r till now and have just started useing ritekGO5-r printables. from what you say do you think i'm out of date and should start burning faster. creaky rates you very highly so i would welcome your opinion
hi gurnard i don't think you are out of date and i have had quite a lot of experience with the Ritek G05s, non printables, but same nevertheless~ if you want the peace of mind for flawless playback, then i would suggest you continue to burn at the speeds you currently use, if your process and technique works, why change it if time is not an issue for you~ you want the best possible quality from the media used, so stick with what you know i burned all my G05s @8x with perfect results, so i know from experience that the media is of a good quality to produce those results. suggesting to burn slower at say, 4x or 6x is for the peace of mind of obtaining those results, it's just a probability factor, burn slower=less chance of burn errors~ makes sense, i like to live on "the edge" with my burning, so i opt for the 8x on ALL my 8x rated media~ that's just me, i have the confidence in the media that i use and purchase to burn flawlessly each and every time. i don't know if that really answers your question or not, but i know from my OWN experience, i have burned the Riteks @ 8x w/ VERY GOOD results, only coaster i ever got was due to "user error" -meaning MY fault~

well i'm finally home. just working thru any afterdawn replies in my inbox. Couple more to check and i can start using some of these new-fangled TY discs that have just arrived. These have on the inner ring, the code 'GG00107', so i'm gonna search for it in a bit.
those are legit buddy, don't worry about that~ TYs always have the GGxxxxxx or GDxxxxxx on the inner ring/hub, you have to start worrying when you get letters and numbers like -8x 34985092 xxxx or whatevers...that's what i have on my FAKE TYs~
