Are you referring to your options in DVD Shrink? There are only 2 ways to output video files: iso (image) file or a folder of video files. Nero can take either as input for burning a disk. DVD Shrink has the following options when the Backup button is clicked under the Target Device tab:

    1. create an iso image file
    2. create an iso image file and burn with DVD Decrypter
    3. create a folder of video files on the hard drive
    4. create and burn with Nero (if Nero is installed)

I prefer outputing an ISO file and then using DVD Decrypter for burning in a 2-step process. Some prefer allowing DVD Shrink to control the burn as well. If you're using Nero, you could dump either a folder of files or an image file and then burn either with Nero or allow DVD Shrink to do the burn. DVD Shrink doesn't use the DVD burner as a target device per se but will burn the disk using either Decrypter or Nero if you choose that option.

    Here's some guides:

    CKOMI0723,

I think I get what you are saying and if I am reading you correctly,no, you can't write disk to disk. You must make an iso image to your hard drive and then burn to disk using decrypter or your favorite burnware from there. hope this helps!

For some reason my DVD shrink doesnt have the option "to burn using iso image with dvd decrypter". Only use iso image. I have the decrypter on my computer, but I cant seem to get it linked to dvd shrink. Any ideas? The guidelines are awesome, by the way!

Did I have to decrypt the dvd before opening shrink or just change the destination settings?? Thanks!

If a DVD has any kind of copy protection other than CSS, DVD Shrink alone cannot decrypt it. You'll need to use DVD Decrypter or DVDFab Decrypter to decrypt it first or have AnyDVD running in the background when you use DVD Shrink for decrypting.

I don't know why Shrink doesn't have the DVD Decrypter option. Was Shrink installed before Decrypter? It may be the case that when Shrink is installed it looks to see if Decrypter is available and adds that option. Burning with Nero has to be activated in the File --> Preferences --> File I/O --> Burn settings --> enable burning with Nero.

I installed shrink after decrypter. I used DVDFab, then opened shrink as per the guidlines (option 1 "Backing up with DVDFAb,decrypter, and DVD shrink).

I guess I would just skip shrink and use the decrypter to back up the full contents onto a dvd then, ya think? (thanks by the way. this forum is great) ;)

Select Backup in Shrink to open Backup DVD window.
    Select Target Device
Under Select Backup Target: select the down arrow to open the drop window for burn choices (indicated by circle and arrow on image below). Then select the option you need.

Burn with Nero options burn to the disignated burner in file mode using Nero. Other options should be self explanatory.

I appreciate that, Bro, but I dont have Nero. I have the decrypter, but it doesnt display it under ISO image file - just says 1 option "ISO image file", and of course create hard disk folder. No Nero options, no decrypter options.

I consider myself fairly computer literate, too! I just think Shrink didnt pick up the decrypter upon setup and automatically linked it.

Figures, too. the guidelines were so simple to follow after a week or two of trying to figure this out on my own and something stupid like this happens :)

Hi nicolle goto the page about half way down is the link to download DVDshrink, download it.

The got your instilation directory, should be

    C:\Program Files\DVD Shrink

then drag and drop the new dvdshrink.exe over the current one and restart dvd shrink when you have analysed the disc and click on back up the new option will be available.

Its really an update, without this update being put over the top of normal dvdshrink.exe you won't have the option.

Hope this helps if not post back, I only got it a couple of days ago and it works for me!!!

It still didnt work, but I did it manually where I just opened the DVD decrypter and found the source etc. Worked great. So thanks so much for all your time and efforts! I'll probably be back, this board is full of info. My next adventure is to get my VHS (or mini dv's) on dvd. Gotta get my home movies up to the times here! LOL.

Most of my VHS tapes were destroyed in a fire before I switched to DVD. For VHS movies a friend of mine said he had to have a decryption box to record them to DVD. I don't know anything about the home movies on VHS. I think there's a section on the forums that covers doing that. There's all kinds of special help sections when a person starts looking around.

Also in that image is the [bold]Create ISO Image File:[/bold]
You should have the same options I have there if you have DVD Decrypter installed. You should be using version 3.5.4.0. Your Shrink should be version 3.2.0.15. Those are the last versions released. Where I have the check by the [bold]ISO Image File[/bold], you should have it by [bold]ISO Image File and burn with DVD Decrypter[/bold] and that should appear as your option in [bold]Select backup target:[/bold]. As long as DVD Decrypter is installed in the default position, Shrink is programmed to know it's location and give the right command. If you use DVDD for ripping, you will need to reset the mode. DVD Shrink when burning automatically with Decrypter leaves it in the ISO Write W mode.

Due to your software not reading the options, download new copies of the versions I noted. http://www.digital-digest.com/dvdshrink/index.php Remove from Add Remove in the Control Panel, reboot and Install. It's a good idea to reboot before use. If you don't do your routine maintenance, it doesn't hurt before getting started with the new install. Adware removal, run the AV ware, and a reg cleaner if you have one. Doesn't hurt to tidy up occasionally. ImgBurn is the updated version of the DVD Decrypter burn engine. When you reinstall Shrink and DVDD, everything should work the way it's supposed to. If not, I think we can get you going.

BRO I THINK YOU JUST NAILED IT ON THE HEAD! Shrink is designed to look for DVD Decrypter in the "DEFAULT" location...... i have mine is a new folder via subfolder!!! Not default c:/program files etc.
And im using the latest versions of both. Well, I guess that solves why it wasnt picking it up, hehe. I guess I have to do a new install in the defaults. (I just hate my computer being "unorganized" so to speak! I'll get back later to let you know how it goes. THANKS SO MUCH! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! BIIIIIIIIG KISS!! ;)
(just the simple fact that i know what the problem is, i can now die in peace.)

Interesting, you like to keep things organized, but in the process your PC sees you as not being organized. Programs that interact with others often need to be in default positions to be recognized and recognize others properly. In the future you may want to take that into account when installing and moving apps. All the programs normally go to C:\Program Files\xxx. What I do though is set the output and temp files to a location I think more desirable and easily located. I have a partition set aside for the output from different apps for DVD output. That also keeps the boot drive from getting fragmented so quickly.

Glad to see you have things under control and YOU'RE WELCOME.
Have a nice evening. If you run into anymore problems, drop on back. If not, drop in for a visit anyway. ;) As they say in the hills, "Ya'all come back now, ye hear".

It worked. Fresh install and the option for IMGburn appears under ISO. Good work there, bro! Thanks so much, Nemo! Until next time...
