How do I speed up Encoding speed on DVDshrink 3.2?

Hi, I am new here and I just recently picked up a Pioneer DVR-610. I'm not sure wether I am going through the right process but it seems to be working okay. first I use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVDs and then I use DVDshrink 3.2 to Encode so that I can fit the movie onto a regular 4.7gb disc, but to the question, I whenever I do Encoding it take almost like an hour and a half for it to finish. I was wondering if there is any way where i can turn up the speed and right now the Rate is at 3kb/s. if there is anyone out there that can help me i would really appreciate it. THX!

    PS. my Specs are
    2.4ghz P4
    1024mb Ram
    DVD-RW 16x16
and i try closing everything that is running in the background but nothing seems to work.

    well to be very detailed,
1st - I copy the 7gb dvd onto my harddrive using DVD decrypter.
2nd - I use DVDshrink to encode, but i just tried the Back up button you suggested, but i dont really know how to mess with it because there isnt really much options to change, because it's greyed out.

i really dont know what to do :\

Like nuju says, if you turn off some of the quality settings it will speed up. Also don't use the preview or multitask while encoding.

If the movie needed to be compressed a lot, I used the deep anlysis, otherwise I didn't, but I never used the adaptive error compensation, and the picture came out great. Nowdays I use Nero, which is much faster even with the quality settings.

ADDED I see we posted at about the same time. Let me know if this guide helps you:

I really don't know why they would be greyed out, unless the movie doesn't need compression at all. What target size did you select for your output folder? Anyway, you don't need to select those options, you need to un-tick them to speed up Shrink.
Did you realy mean 3kb/s, or it was 3000kb/s?

I'm having the simlar problem , I burned dvds with my old computer and burner , usally took about 20 mins to encode it to the hard drive and 10 mins to burn . But my old burner went out and I upgraded my computer . I'm using dvd shrink and dvd decryper with nero .My new computer is a Dell Pent. 4 with 1 gig of ram ( should be flying right ? ) my new burner is Ben Q lightscribe 16X dvd burner .
My primary IDE controllers are set to :
    DMA if available
current tranfer mode PIO ( I've tried to change this but I can't )
    An earlier burn today :
    Decryption Status
    DE:FE:B9:EA:B8
    Rate
    2,534 kb/s
    Buffer
    33MB
    1Hr 13mins
Help ! there has to be something I can do to speed this up !~

The current transfer mode must be in DMA/UDMA/or if available. If it says pio mode,no good.

That ide/ata- Atapi controller that says pio mode: After you open up device manager and that channel that is in pio, click the advanced tab and uninstall drivers. Then re-boot. Make sure all primary and secondary controllers say UDMA/DMA/or If available.

htown22: The fastest way to backup dvds is to bypass dvd decrypter and use dvd shrink to rip/compress/encode/and autoburn with nero burning rom/copytodvd/or dvd decrypter.

Re-author for main movie only/cut out unnecessary sound streams/directors commentary/extra main movie titles and anything else. The key is to keep compression to a minimum.More compression=slower process times. Also double check your ide's and make sure they say dma/udma/or if available.

There are 2 main modes in dvd decrypter: For a 1:1 copy,no compression, use the ISO read and write mode. This is for dvd-9 to dvd-9 or dvd-5 to dvd-5.

Dvd-9 to dvd-5 needs dvd shrink to compress them so file mode is used. Which mode are you using?

You need to change that PIO mode to DMA. This will make a large difference in speed of encoding.

Do a search -- there are some very detailed explanations as to how to go about this. The method that seems to work the most often for most users is as follows:

-Go to the Device Manager, and uninstall the actual IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers - (right click on the Primary IDE Channel. choose "Uninstall." Then, right click on the Secrondary IDE Channel -- click on "Uninstall.")

    -Reboot the computer.

That should solve it -- Windows will find those same two channels again when it restarts, and it should re-assign them as DMA, instead of the horribly slow and unstable PIO mode.

If it does not, there is a more complex method, which will work. Try the above, first, though.

Also, do a search on "DMA mode" and you will find tons of threads discussing this. It is a Windows "bug" of sorts, in that it will be re-set to PIO mode after six I/O errors. This occurs easily, since even one dirty disc can cause more than 6 of those errors to occur.

In other words, if it slows down again at anytime in the future, check this setting again.

EDIT: Saugmon -- sorry, I think your reply beat mine, as I must have been typing as you responded. Sorry for the duplicated info, RE: DMA mode.

    help123,
If you right click the secondary IDE Contollers you can uninstall it there. Then re-boot and the OS will reinstall it properly. If you want to speed it up then do not use Deep Analysis or any AEC Quality Enhancements

After you get done setting the movie up, you select the "Backup!" button to start the transcoding process. When you press that button it opens the "Backup DVD" tabbed menu. Click the Quality Settings tab and you will see the settings there. Uncheck them.

    Edit:
Decrypter works very well to burn with. Many people use it.You may want to try ImgBurn which is the more advanced and supported burning portion of Decrypter:

    help123,
DVDD is fine to burn w/ and I think it burns an image file better than Nero

im using shrink now to backup a movie and the time remaining is 2 hours 31 minutes. the video preview is off and all the AEC settings. I just don't get how people are doing it in 10 minutes and under.

Are you backing up entire disc or reauthoring for main movie only?

What did the compression tab say in dvd shrink? The higher the number, the less compression. 100 is is my goal which is no compression at all.

Huge compression differences between entire disc and reauthor, especially if you are backing up an entire disc with more than 1 main movie titles in it.

@help123, What are your computer specs?

    Processor type and speed
    RAM size
    Transfer modes

A fast way to find all this stuff out plus a lot more is to download the free Nero Info tool and run it. It will gather all the information. You can save it as a text file (click the floppy icon at the top) and then post the results.
