all i can say in ur case wicked is that if u do a speed test and u note the download speed, u probably will not get speeds higher than the download speed divided by eight. so u take the download number u got from the test, divide that by eight, and whatever u get u probably wont get higher download speeds than that. this applies to everyone. for example, my download speed test results are 900kbs average, so i divide that by eight and get 112. thus i now know i will never get speeds higher than 112kbs. and in fact i've never seen it go up to 100 even. sometimes it reaches 90, and maybe a little more.
so there u go if u are getting like 100kbs or so on ur speed test, unfortunately u wont be getting speeds higher than...well u do the math.

Hi Red, thanks for the reply, I've done the speed test and its just over 800 which gives me just over 80kbs, before I was able to get speeds up to 86kbs and sometimes it would briefly peak at 90, but now it wont go higher than 4, its mostly 0 or 1.

hmm in that case u should be getting higher speeds (cuz 800 is pretty high). and u say u getting a green light....hmm. maybe the torrent ins't that popular and u are connected to only like 3 people. maybe u set ur max upload too high. i got mine at 19, u should set urs at like 17. make sure u have 0 (for unlimited) in ur max download. i have 5 on "default max upload SLOTS per torrent" which means max number of people uploading, i think.
if nothing works try uninstalling and installing ur BT client. i did this when i was tweaking the configurations and got even slower speeds. i never got the high speeds back even by putting the same values as before on the configurations, until i reinstalled the BT client, which reset the options.
if i think of anything else i let u know. cuz right now im gonna play NFS underground 2 :)

    Thanks, I'll try that.
Damn, now that aint fair, its NFS-UG2 that I the low speeds on, I cant wait till its finished one day, maybe late next year before I can play. Let me know how it is, compared to NFS-UG1.

    Fank u

NFS Underground 2 is in about the same level compared to NSFU1. At first i was very disappointed when at first i saw the cars on the main menu. but then i thought, well it aint that bad, cuz the game play graphics are pretty much the same way as the first, just different setting. the career mode i think is better than the NFSU1 version, since it's got like a GTA mode of playing (u are in a city and u have to go to the car-shops urself and stuff like that). the movie graphics are bad, but i mean bad, so bad it reminded me of old SEGA Genisis games lol. so i guess if u average out the plus and minuses they are both about the same level. which is really too bad, cuz i really thought they could have made NFSU2 so much better than the first.

I've checked on the Shields Up page, and it suggests that my ports' status are stealth, and i am a newbie to all this networking issues, how do i go about configuring my firewall? I do not huv norton internet security installed on my computer (althou i do huv norton antivirus), and i've also checked on my networking connection, and there seems to b no firewall on any of my connection. I am connected to a router, and I've disabled the firewall feature in the router setup page. Can anybody help me? I am constantly getting a yellow status on my downloads on ABC.. and i've tried forwarding the ports(6881-6889), set the ports of ABC to 6881-6889(the default was 1881-1999), and nothing seems to work...~ i need help desperately...~

I even formatted and reinstalled my PC and I still cant get speeds higher than 5kbs where I used to get between 60 and 90kbs. The formatting yould not really make a difference cause all the network settingsand firewall is run by my wireless router and my IP on my PC is the same as what it was before. My ports are all forwarded and tested, all is 100%, I've tried downloading from different sites and different things, old ones and new ones and nothing works, its all slow. My XP's firewall is disabled and the wireless software's firewall is also disabled. My speed tests run around 700 and no ports are in stealth mode. I dont know what to do anymore.

yo sorry but im a sort of newb at this, i only build computers i dont program them and stuff so yeah. i have a pretty good idea of what to do though. im running a network with no firewalls on my computer or my adapter, im running on rogers high speed ultra, it 5mbs, and i opened the ports from 6881-6889 and i was wondering, is 150k the fastest i should be going or should i be downloading at a higher speed?

daaaaaamn dawg, that's some high speed sh*t u got going there. man, i which i had that connection. how much does it cost u?

well im not a genius on this but, i for one, can only tell u that if u got a green light on ur BT client then u set ur ports correctly and u should be downloading at full capacity.

    ...150k...wow!

    Hey Scorpi...
    hey siancell,
i have bellsouth dsl with westell modem too. this is what i did to configure my modem:

-open a internet explorer browser and type "launchmodem" (without the quotes) on the address bar.
-on the window that appears click on "Expert Mode". Click on "yes, enter expert mode" when the warning comes up.
-Click on the "Configure" tab, then click on "NAT".
-Ok, now look to ur right, where it says Service Name, click on the arrow and scroll down to where it says *My New Service, click on that, and then on Edit (u might have to scroll to the right to see the Edit button).
-a new window will pop up, click on Add. Here u will set the port range. Set the Global Port Range from 6881 to 6999. Leave the Base Host Port as is, and make sure the Protocol is set to TCP (Bittorrent doesn't use UDP Protocol). Click Next
-Now you have to enable it. scroll down to the service u created and click on it, then click on the "Enable" button.

And thats it you're done, the light should turn Green and after a lit while u should get significantly faster downloads then before.
If the light doens't turn Green restart Bit tornado, or whatever you're using, and wait at least 5 mins, the light should turn Green then.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN CLICK ON *My New Service?
I DONT SEE THAT AS AN OPTION.
I HAVE THE SAME MODEM AND BELLSOUTH SERVICE.

aight, if u don't have *My New Service as an option click on the button that says "Define Custom Service"; (it's on that same NAT Configuration page). a window is gonna pop up, make sure u have "Port Forwarding Ranges of Ports" checked on that window and click "next". then u will be taken to the Port Range window where u can continue with these steps...

Here u will set the port range. Set the Global Port Range from 6881 to 6999. Leave the Base Host Port as is, and make sure the Protocol is set to TCP (Bittorrent doesn't use UDP Protocol). Click Next
-Now you have to enable it. scroll down to the service u created and click on it, then click on the "Enable" button.

hey redscorpi um i actually pay $45.99 a month with rogers so yeah its not as expensive as you think. mostly cuz you pay the same amount as you do for 3mbs, just that you gotta buy the modem seperate its $100 now but when i got it it was $80. Oh and do you think i should be going faster than 150k bcuz my cousin has 3mbs and he goes at the same speed as me so i find that messed up, and my circle thingy in azureus is always yellow, but i set my ports for my router to 6881-6889.

oh dude, if the light is yellow all the time then u SHOULD be getting faster speeds. if it's yellow u haven't forwarded ur ports correctly. the ports are being blocked by a firewall or something.

if u want to check ur ports to see if they're being blocked go here:
    www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
    -click "Proceed"
-scroll down to the blue box, type in "6881-6889" without the quotes (u dont need to type in the whole range, in fact u cant)
-click on the button that says "User Specified Custom Port Probe" on the bottom-left.
-scroll down, u get a list of the ports and their status.
If the status is "STEALTH" for all the ports, then thats the reason for the yellow light and most likely the reason u are not getting higher speeds then ur cousin lol. so u are gonna have to forward the ports correctly.

My downloads are very slow - surprise surprise! And the button is yellow. I've ran the test to check at www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and the ports were blocked. But how to reconfigure my firewall?

The only firewall I can find on my PC is a McAfee one and it already says that btdownloadgui is given all access.

BTW, I have a cable modem and a wireless router.

    Thks

    Hello
I have a linksys router and use the torrent program Azureus... i tried going to 192.etc.etc.etc and doing the port forwarding with my router and my average download speed it 10kB/s ... i have high speed cable with cogeco cable solutions and was wondering if anyone could give me a hand in configuring it so that it doesnt take me days to download gig files... any help would be MUCH appreciated.

hey i have a linksys router also, what all have you done to try and speed up BT, did you port forward all those ports including the 5 digit ones or do you need to know how to. also you have to make sure you are using the right ip address which you can find easily by typing the command 'ipconfig' in command prompt. if you are using that ip address and everything you are doing looks like you did it right which all the help given in this forum, just private message me and ill take a screenshot of my linksys control panel and we will see if we can find the problem there.
