Help me please. I'm new on the web and just started downloading stuff. ( I have cox cable ) I have used utorrent and bittorrent to download software, movies and music. Lately my access to the internet is blocked by cox and I have to go through hours of crap on the phone to eventually be given a code number a and number to call. It is security telling me a seeder notified the movie company that my ip address has been downloading their movies and that I have violated copywrite laws. How can I keep them from doing this?
Move to a country where this activity is allowed. Unfortunately when you signed up for your account you agreed to abide by their terms of service, part of which I believe is not to violate any laws, which it seems to be in this case the downloading of movies which you have no right to. You might want to reconsider when you think of the trouble you might find yourself in, the monetary damages which they come after you for, and the possibility of taking you to court and restricting your access and ownership of a computer.
Install some kind of ip blocker like PeerGuardian. Doesn't work with Vista but there is a beta that does. Also client's like Azureus or utorrent let you import block list's that will. Neither of these option's is 100%, more like 60% but better than nothing. Ensure your file's have completed as there are companies seeding phony file's that never complete just to harvest ip's. And about jail, don't know but doubt it seeing as the vast majority of torrenting is copyrighted material. There is only one way to prevent being caught 100% and that is not to do it. Edit: look into joining some private sites (much safer) but don't ask for invite's at AD, it's not allowed.
roflmao. Hey to Jack.. @paulefret. Have a look through this private torrent site review list. It might come in handy.. http://filesharefreak.com/2008/03/28/private-bittorrent-site-reviews-a-look-inside/ As you may be aware, not all sites accept memberships all of the time..."doors are closed", so you will have to visit them on a regular basis to confirm sign ups. Darn T/L.. i'm still waiting and waiting..lol cheers.
