How do you change background?

Can you change or make the background of a photo or jpeg file black? How and which software will allow you to do this?

 

You can use several methods, with several programs. I prefer photoshop. Easiest way to do it is by using grayscale masks. Here's an example:

Wow, loks a little complicated. Firstly I have no photoshop. I was hoping that we could do it with just a click, but obviously not. What other programs allow me to do this? Thanks for your help though.

 

I say get a copy of microsoft digital image 2006..
i do this all the time..
cut out what ye want out of the pix and layer it on top of any back ground ye want.
it takes two steps..

That's the right way of doing it -- it's called stiching it off !

You can also get a Trial copy of Corel Paint Shop Pro !

 

Corel Paint Shop Pro will do this easily? I have Paint Shop Pro X, and I cannot find an easy way to do this. It says use background eraser, I mean that is a very dificult way to slowly eliminate the background especially if you have a complex shape to go around. Your help is appreciated.

 

i did not post this in my upper post because it not being sold any more..,the main program i use are microsoft picture it 2000 2-disk for the install and picture it publishing it 2003..7 disks for the install.it does not have as meny filters as photoshop,,but..
its a lot easer then most programs to use..

when i get a chance i will post a pix i did in the shout box..

note:i did hundred's and hundreds of pictures in those program..

 

Hey I have Picture it publishing 2001. So how does it work, I tried it and the background did not change. Perhaps its an enhancement in 2003?

its 97% the same as 2003
put ye pix in the work bench,select cutout and pictures then select cut out of picture then by tracing and area on my own.
once cut out,insert it into any back ground..
it does take practice..but ye will learn if ye keep at it..

note ye got one of the best programs out.

 

Well what do you know. I have a nice prog sitting on my desktop that I don't even use, and here I am looking for new ones. Go figure that one.

 

Now I find I have picture it 2003. Hmmm interesting. So what else does this program do for me?

 

Well you can always use the lasso tool or eraser, but it's not going to look real.

So people, how would you change the background of a picture using Corel Paint Shop Pro X? I would appreciate any input. I also have Microsoft Office professional 2003 so it has its own tools which I find are pretty nifty. I can do this the painstaking way of erasing around the object, I mean how would you do a Cirlce for instance, or really complex shapes. Lets see what you can come up with. We need some solid ideas please. Help !!!

i have it and photoshop and other pix programs and do use them,rjessa has a program that does all most the same thing..why buy another program..

In your Paint Shop Pro -- On left Menu--- change the selection tool to Freehand selection -then pick the point to point selection type in the above toolbar- then just go around the object you want to take out of the picture -- Choose a starting point on the edge of it. Left click once.. move a bit away. still on the edge.. left click . move- left click.....so on till you have gone around the object and you have reached your starting point . RIGHT Click to close the lasso! (That's is what is called the stitching method - just like a seamstress using a needle to sew around a piece of cloth)What arcanix was referring to in his post !

Now click CUT.. and paste as a layer in another pic if you so wish.

There are a lot of tutorials on the web -- Google Paint shop Pro Tutorials-- if you want to learn more.

 

Thanks, I tried it, and it seems to work ok. I guess it only gets better with practice. Still in this day of technology one would think you would have an easier method then this to be able to cut around an object. But I must thank you for at least giving me a solution.

 

One little trick to make it faster -- is to choose Freehand instead of Point to Point --- Blow up the images.. and if you have dexterity...you can Left click HOLD--> from the starting point around the object and drag all the way around it following the edges. Release the Left click! So in one sweep you have put the lasso on what you want..... !

Any way you do it , with whatever tool you use -- it's a bit of work ! --- <<smiles>> With practice, you become a magician and you do those cuts in seconds.

i was talking about photoshop,and picture it is no longer being sold by microsoft.the below pix will be up for a while..was made in picture it 2000.20 min ago and took less then 15 min to do it....................
