when i turn on the pc a message pops up saying that I have to reistall system32\hal.dll how do i do that.
not sure if this will work for you but try this: 1) pop in your XP CD 2) boot to cd 3) log into into repair console 4) change directory to cd/dvd drive and go into the i386 folder 5) type 'expand -r HAL.DL_ C:\WINDOWS\system32' you are basically unpacking the compressed 'HAL.DL_' file on the xp cd to your windows\system32\ folder. edit: changed 'recovery' to 'repair'
i downloaded it on my laptop how do i get it onto my pc because i cant do what they said to do becuse my pc dont work all i get is the message that the file is missing or corupt "Use WinZip to extract the file to your windows\system directory."
i went on hp's website to see what to do and they have instructions on how to fix this problem the only problem is that they say to put the windows xp cd in but i ddnt get any did any of you get the cd with your pc's. this is my fourth pc and not one came with the cds
Download a bootable CD, bartPE would be good, create the ISO image but add the dll file that's bad onto the image of the disc. Boot the bad computer from that disc and use the file manager to drop the dll file into the appropriate directory.
You don't need recovery console if you can download and install bartPE, and you get an explorer style interface and an easy to use file manager.
