its just 2 recievers in one box, and it will have 2 seperate input connections at the back of it, one for viewing cable tv(you connect your virgin/chorus/ntl cable to this)and the other connection for satellite(you connect the cable from your dish to this)it will only have one output to your tv,you then just use the remote to switch between the dish and cable. i dont know what channels your hoping to get from this box but you will get all the free channels on the sky satellite(if your dish is pointed at the sky satellite) as for the cable side(there may only be a few free to air channels)if your in ireland the cable side of it will be of little use due to the introduction of nagravision 3 cards by cable providers, and if your in the uk sorry to say nagravision 3 is all ready being used or may be in use soon.

well for sky channels there are only 3 ways, 1=pay for cable tv, 2=pay for sky tv,3=cs (cardsharing)check out this link. http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-59/shy_channels_on_sat_with_dreambox_500s-794779/10 you could also watch streaming tv online(some is good quality but some is poor)here is a link to one streaming site(to view the likes of sly sports and espn, they dont broadcast all the time but you can view nearly all premier league games on there) http://topsy.com/site/vshare.tv or you could just get a free to air reciever and dish(dish pointed at the sky satellite)to view all the free channels on there. here is a link to show you some of the free channels available(credit and thanks to alandub10 for his very usefull post) http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-59/sky-box-freeview-chanenls-831276/ i hope this helps you.
