I have a few PS3 backups that I want to transfer into the hard drive of my PS3. I understand the PS3 will not be able to read or detect NTFS formatted drive. Since each games is 15-30 GB in size and can not be transferred to a FAT/FAT32 drive, as FAT only support up to 4GB, how can I transfer it? I tried transferring via FTP, but my internet connection/speed is a joke. If it can be done, what's the easiest (and if possible, fastest) method? Backup Manager is also not an option. Thanks.
at the moment the FTP is the only way, if you connection is slow transfer the game before you go to sleep that way in the morning it will be ready
Thanks you guys, but I've already found a solution to my own question. And @biglo30, no, transfer speed isn't based solely on the type of router I have, which by the way would be the Linksys WRT610N (dual band wireless N) router. The router's transfer speed is as good as the internet connection speed. The thing is I'm still stuck with crappy DSL (yeah I know, can't afford Comcast at the moment).
Ummmm I don't think that is correct, when your using the FTP to transfer your files over it doesn't need any internet connection for this to be done. My internet connections gets me about 3mb/s down and when transferring the files I get 8.6mb/s. Prety nice router thought mines can't compare. By the way how did you fix the problem? Yeah comcast is such a rip off right now with the xfinity thing. Basic cable is about $50 now, when I only want to watch about 10 channels. But I think they have like a 6 month deal for 19.99.

Usually the nice thing to do would be to explain your solution so others with the same problem can figure it out on their own, but I guess some people just like to come here and read responses from others regarding their question and then leave
Cool. I pay $10 for DSL. Had it since '03, locked in rates. Downstream max at 1MB, which is usually my average, and is not the greatest but also not bad for 10 years old technology (I've seen some people with Comcast, up to date, with similar speeds). I forgot all about the ADHOC method. I setup an ADHOC connection between my computer and PS3, connected directly via ethernet cable (no middle man/router). Get an average transfer speed of 15MB/s (speed of course differs from PC to PC based on CPU, activities, type of cable, ethernet card, etc.) Transfer files through FTP via ADHOC connection. I left an reply on one of your post: http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-153/what_ftp_client_did_you_use-868661/ Dev should develop a program like WinHIIP (for the PS2) for the PS3, where you can just connect the console's HDD to the computer and dump files (even those larger than 4GB) directly into the drive. I think it would save alot of time and headache.
I apologize for not making myself clear. In my question, I was referring to wireless FTP'ing, which at my connection speed, is a joke. I am now using wired FTP. Here's how I did it, I hope it clarifies some things in your behalf. Plugged in a CAT5e ethernet cable from the ethernet port of my PC to the ethernet port of my PS3 From PC (Windows XP): went to CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK CONNECTION, right clicked it, select PROPERTY (On General Tab) Selected INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP\IP) > clicked PROPERTY checked USE THE FOLLOWING IP ADDRESS and set the followings to: IP ADDRESS - 10.1.1.1 SUBNET MASK - 255.0.0.0 (Sometimes you might have to use 255.255.255.0, but both works for me) DEFAULT GATEWAY - 10.1.1.1 checked USE THE FOLLOWING DNS SERVER ADDRESSES and set the followings to: PREFERRED DNS SERVER: 10.1.1.1 ALTERNATE DNS SERVER: left blank FROM PS3: went to SETTINGS > NETWORK SETTINGS >INTERNET CONNECTION SETTINGS and set the followings to: Select a method - CUSTOM Select a connection method - WIRED CONNECTION Select the operation mode.... blah blah blah... - AUTO-DETECT IP Address Settings - MANUAL and set the followings to: IP ADDRESS - 10.1.1.2 SUBNET MASK - 255.0.0.0 DEFAULT GATEWAY - 10.1.1.1 PREFERRED DNS SERVER: 10.1.1.1 ALTERNATE DNS SERVER: left blank MTU - AUTOMATIC Proxy Server - NO NOT USE UPnP - ENABLE and save settings. Launch FTP Server from PS3 and Start file server on PC. I use FileZilla but settings should work for all FTP clients: Host - 10.1.1.1 Username - FTPD12345 Password - left it blank Port - 21
Thanks for sharing !! I use an open network at home but ps3 won't connect to it. I have been ripping games but looking for a solution to download and transfer games without an internet connection.
The method I've posted above requires no internet connection. It's an ADHOC connection - device to device.
