riplock is basically something that is set by the manufacturer on your drive which prevents fast ripping of the dvd to your hard drive... hence the name riplock...

However you can get round this with patched firmware - or spend £16 and buy a plain dvd rom drive...

I rip with Shrink first, which takes roughly 19 minutes. Then I'll burn with Nero, typically around 2 minutes. I have my burner set to burn at 2X and I set Nero to burn at 2.4. I do not mind extra time to ensure I have a good quality back-up.

25 minutes for DVD Shrink to encode and 8-10 minutes for DVD Decrypter to burn for me.

What make and model dvdrw? Media code speed edit has nothing to do with ripping. It allows you to burn media at a faster speed than it is rated at. Most here don't burn over 4x even on higher rated media.

There are a lot of other factors that can cause slow encode times, cpu speed, amount and speed of ram, quality settings in shrink to name a few.

Do you rip useing dvd shrink or dvd decrypter first? How long does it take for just the rip? If you rip with dvd decrypter it will show the what speed it is ripping at. Different dvd's rip faster than others eg: a dvd without any css encryption will rip a lot faster than one with encryption.

I can make a backup with dvd shrink with no quality settings in about 20 min but can't stand the result when I watch it on my 52" big screen. A lot of folk here could care less about quality and all they want is speed. I don't even use dvd shrink anymore but rather RB/CCE because I want the best quality possible and am not concerned with speed. On average a backup will take a little over 2 hrs for a 7000-7500mb (6.8-7.3gb) vidio folder.

More like 20-25 min if burning at 2x or 2.4x
