I'm fairly new to the whole "backing" up games and cds thing. Generally how long does it take to backup a game whether it be copyright protected or not?_X_X_X_X_X_[small]AMD 2200 XP

If you mean the time to rip the game and burn it back, it depends.

On unprotected discs, you do the whole process in abut 6-7 minutes. If you have CDs protected wioth error blocks (SafeDisc, Laserlok, Ring Protech), unreadable sectors will cause the reader to take hours to read the CD, unless you have a good software (CloneCD, Alcohol, BlindWrite, DiskJuggler) with the 'Fast Error Skip' capability. But again, you can write it at 40x, if your system allows it.

The learning curve to learn how to backup a CD is strongly mind-dependent, so there is no way I can estimate this..

[bold]The rip time on CloneCD seems to take hours on protected discs. However with Alcohol it took about an hour to hour and a half.[/bold]

Sometimes the CDWriter takes much less time than a CD-ROM unit... and remember to switch ON the 'fast error skip' option
