HUGE question. im freaked out by downloading law-suits. Ironically i download tons of videos. How doi lower my chances of getting caught/sued? ANYTHING WILL HELP!!! THANKS
the chances.. are pretty slim.. in the news or w/e, the MIAA atack file sharers, but not catching for the purpose of downloading them illegally (not 100% ...). so they shud only get a slight hint of you, if u share files bigtime. however, u cud always get an IP filter. Peer Gaurdian 2, im not sure if it works or not, but i have it. google it. basically, be a leacher, unless you really must seed.
I fear of them also but If you think of how many people use P2P.. exactly. Millions of people do it every day, theres not ONE moment of the day where someone isnt illegally downloading. I got all the protection, ProtoWall, PeerGuardian 2, Blocklist, McAfee security suite 2005, And 32 proxies. I agree with you HT2791 to an extent but.. the worst thing you could possibly do, is become a leecher. I'd say it was disgraceful to take but not give. -Mike
thanks a bunch. That helped, but one more question, would the firewall that comes with Windows XP service pack2 help???
that microsoft firewall doesn't do SQUAT~! it's one of the weakest protections EVER, if you would even call it a protection scheme~
I have to agree I think the microsoft firewall just gives you the illusion of being protected. I get more protection from my router than microsoft.
just don't share thousands of files and you will probably be okay. the RIAA targets users that are sharing tons of files, not people that are downloading
Thanks, Thats probably the only thing im worried about. I download like 20 episodes of Futurama a week to put on my PSP and Nintendo DS. Right off the Bear Share!! (which kicks Kazaas @ss!!!!) thanks again!
at least your downloading quality material...Futurama is my favorite show!!! I am still bitter to this day that it was cancelled...it had so much potential
BUT djscoop, if youre interested, Futurama the game came out for PS2. Hard to find, very cheap, but pretty fun to play!!!!!!!!
@Shinraboy The RIAA are not gonna sue you for having/sharing futurama, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association Of America) only deal in music, stuff like futurama are left for the MPAA, and correct me if Im wrong here, but you'r less likely to get caught by the MPAA. -Mike
hey was jus reading the thread and yah im just as worried as all of u..to be honest..i went to india for 1 year as an exchange student..and man boy was it fun there..cos practically every game system(ps2,xbox....) all are sold modded..so all the games are backed up versions but are made jus like master copies and they cost almost nothing ther...(i game is about roughly 2 $) and there is no worry there for any sorts of things like these.. but yah if ppl are really worried about it..i think u shud do as one of the members said become a leecher..tho it is very disgraceful.. and the perfect program for that i think is irc... www.mirc.com u can get the software there..u can learn how to use it with the faq.. or jus pm me...i get my iso for ps2 and xbox from there...its only one way downloading..ur not sharing any files at all... but yah thankx for the info...i shud really get the peer guardian..sounds good.. anyway good luck..sorry if i went a lil offboard with the whole india thing..i was jus fascinated...what we backup at our homes ppl over there take advantage and sell in mass numbers...wow..anyway good luckbyebye
thanks, same thing was found by my cousin when he lived in Puerto Rico. Boots all around. Im not gonna be a leech though. Ill just min. my downloading time, THANKS!
You should Use BitTorrent when you can, they have a wide-selection of stuff and you don't need to share masses of files, just seed for 24 hours after you've successfully downloaded something. -Mike
so hey then just to get this straight...ur not in any real danger while ur downloading the file thru bittorrent ? is that rite.. i usually seed for a week straight once im done downloading the file..now that u told me ill cut down on that..but is it true that while ur downloading the file there isnt major risk? jus wanted to knw.. thx
In the UK the people being caught seem to be using Kazaa and Bearshare and are making available over a 1000 files. The sensible idea for the future I think is to use torrents where your IP address is just linked to one download and can't easily be tracked to other illegal stuff already on your system. The authorities are only going for the big uploaders at the moment so as long as you limit your use it is not worth their effort to go after you.
hey conolly thanx alot..that helps appreciate it well.. catch u guys later im off to virginia now with my girlfriend to enjoy the beach ^^ hv a good weekend all
