HOW TO backup Wii and GC Games (Better Guide)

Trying to make a backup image for zelda for me to practice burning on.

Wifi dumping works fine albiet slow (6-10 hours eta)

I formatted my 4gb memorex usb drive with FAT and FAT32 and both give an error when trying to mount

Any idea what would cause this?

SD dump works fine, but switching 9 times will be a tad annoying ^^

 

Wifi dumping should only take 2.5 hrs for Twilight Princess (Wii).
Make sure all your router conditions are optimal, and don't use so much of your internet bandwidth that it slows the WAN bandwidth (hard to do but yeah).

For some reason I'm thinking 2Gb is the limit, or that some flash drives are just incompatible.

Your best bet it to work out your home network problems because the Wifi dump is fusking boss.

 

I figured it was a partition size problem, havn't tried fixing it.

No chance of improving my wifi speeds, router and wii and totally on opposite sides of the house going through alot of walls -.-

Will just have to try and make my usb drive work

 

You could just move it when you backup a game @_@

Or buy another router and bridge the connections.
$30 to save you alot of manual labor.

 

Hi, I dumped Wario Ware Smooth Moves in 8 parts. How do I make 1 file of it? Or how do I burn it so it works?

hi gus. new to this. would i be able to play the game with the unmodded wii or do i have to mod it. can can i use a normal dvd burner/reader?

 

uh wat size does the sd card have to be cuz my card is only 512 mb

 

512 is enough, You can split the game in smaller parts.
But i still have NO FRIGGIN'idea what I have to do with those parts...
Do I have to burn them or do I have to make one big ISO file of it? (>>how?!?!)

^^^Geoffrey6, here's your solution for combining pieces. If you've chosen SD/USB and split it into multiple pieces you'll have to reconstruct them, you can use the program HJSplit (it's Freeware, don't worry). I've provided the link to the .zip/.tar.gz file of the program below.

Now, before you use the program, make sure you do the following. Lets say that your image is in 4 pieces. They're all titled R70E.iso. What you need to do is number them in a format that HJSplit recognizes. The first piece would be numbered R70E.iso.001, the second R70E.iso.002, and so on and so forth. Once they're numbered put them all in a folder together. Then you're good to go ahead and use HJSplit. To do so, run hjsplit.exe, then click "Join". At that point it will let you choose the first file from the folder. Since they're all named appropriately, it automatically sticks them all together. Then you simply choose an output folder and click the "Start" button. It's very easy and obviously its faster if you're combining Gamecube images as opposed to Wii images.

 

When I tried to send the file from my desktop I got
>> Sending DVD ISO... ERROR! (ret = -10056)

Then almost the same thing from my laptop
>> Sending DVD ISO... ERROR! (ret = -10015)

I Googled and found a guy with the same problem and he tried Firefox and it worked, so I tried and it worked for me too. I just thought I'd add this to the thread in case anyone else encountered the same issue. This may be a band-aid type fix, so if anyone else has a way to get it working with IE please chime in!

 

when i use firefox it only lets me download 2gb then stops. anyone else heard of this problem im using fiefox 3.o

 

I was able to get everything connected and dumping but after 1.8 gigs it froze up. I was using firefox. Received a message there was a timeout in the download. Didnt get a chance to retry but think my problem may have been I was downloading something else on the internet when it occurred.

I have a problem, i dmped the wii game into my SD card by parts, and now i cant place together the splited ISO parts, how can i place em together?

Someone asked about the speed at which it transfers via the wifi before, and I wanted to ask the same question. Withough moving my laptop, my speed dropped from 500kbps to 250kpbs, and I dont know how to get it back up. Does anyone know why this has happened? It's a pain because it takes 5 hours to do one single disc

 

I am also having the same problem as kferrell and smif...I can only get through2-3 gb via wifi and then it just stops and appears to be frozen. Wii says its still sending the ISO but the percentage on the download progress bar just stays stuck. Please help! Ive been trying to research a solution for 1 week now and apparently everyone else is enjoying DVD Dump but me. Is it possible that it is timing out under some setting either in firefox or my router that I am not aware of? Thanks in advance!

 

i got my first dump to work last night via the wifi.

i am also using firefox AND i had my wife doing other things on the net (though she was on a different computer on the network).

i originally could not get internet explorer to work, so i went with firefox.

maybe the problem is with the way you are trying to save the file. i right clicked the link, and did a "save target as..." instead of left clicking to save.

my speeds were not the greatest 384k-560k, but it worked without a hitch.

not sure how helpful this will be, but i thought i would share my experience.

 

Thanks Jaynecobb...are you using Firefox 3? I have been reading that firefox has been having problems with some downloads, in particular with the type of error I just got when trying it again. It said:

"RMGE.iso.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read."

This error was given in firefox browser and not DVD Dump. I also noticed that I was getting downloads of about 560kb/s for the first 2gb, then suddenly it dropped to 250kb/s and then 20 minutes later the error appeared and my computer lost the connection with my wii. Then the following error appeared on DVD dump:

Something to the effect of "Error: unable to parse client request. ret= -10040."

Anyways, thanks for the info, I'll try right clicking next time and see if that makes a difference.
