Having tested lots of brands of discs I would have recommended Verbatim but like too many things these days things are outsourced to cheapo outfits in India where quality goes down hill rapidly. As mentioned previously Philips and TDK thought to be of good reputation have been outsourced to inferior factory's in India etc. Ritek are good to start off with but then after a while the dye seems to degrade and you are left with coasters. Sony are fine but if you are worried about spyware the go for the Verbatim and maybe you might be strike lucky.
Has anyone bought a DVD-ROM MODEL NUMBER GDR-8161B from this epartstech ebay seller? I bought one from him but he sent me a different model. I sent him email and made phone call to him but no response so far. I paid him through paypal. I plan to tell my visa company to stop the payment if I do not get the correct replacement by my visa due day. The link of the item is http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170093974334&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123
And, yet, nobody has given him negative feedback for the drives?! You can get your money back from PayPal too. Log in and file a dispute stating that the wrong product was sent. If PayPal does not give you your money back, then definitely dispute the charge with your credit card. What did he send you anyway?
He sent me a DVD-ROM model# of "XJ-HD166S" When I asked him when I would receive my DVD-ROM, he replied that it was shipped and told me that "Please check that the drive is the correct model number. We have had some mix ups on this part number. If it is not the correct model number - we do have replacements" Then after two days later, I got my DVD-ROM with the model# of "XJ-HD166S". Then I immediate sent him the following email but now response so far. "Today, I have received a wrong model number DVD-ROM from you. The model # you sent to me is "XJ-HD166S". This is not I want. The model # I bought from you should be "GDR-8161B". I do not want the model # XJ-HD166S. I only want the the model # GDR-8161B as stated in your ebay item description." I don't want to leave a negative feedback to him and try to solve the problem with him. If two more days later, I still get no response from him, I definite tell paypal and my credit card company.
Well I'm a newbie to all this, but I spent hours looking for a LG 816XB or BB or BK or whatever. I found two (what appears to be) legitimate sites http://www.consolesource.com ($79.99 + S/H) and http://www.megaloot4u.com ($51 - 99 + $10 S/H (US)). I bought a new GDR-8162B from megaloot. (Hopefully I'll actually get it!) Looking around this seems to be the best at this point. REMEMBER Resist the temptation to buy the cheap GDR-8160, according to this massive 69 page thread, IT WON'T WORK. Now the question is for a father of 5 little ones (I had only 2 wii game that worked out of the 12 that I have bought, before I sent them off to be resurfaced) What is the best mod kit (I have an ORIGINAL wii (2006)) -- DuoWii Mod, CycloWiz 2, D2C Key, WiiKey, or other? Also could someone repost the best (currently available) DVD writer? I gather the consensus seems to be that DVD-R are superior to DVD+R. Also FYI If you need some scratched discs repaired (5+) Post it and maybe I can help.
why didnt i just come to afterdawn to begin with?!?!? Pretty bad i had to "Stumble" on the best info on backin up my wiigames. Great tut Bunny! Im rounding up my items now. Great feedback on the drives and media, i got my list and im checking it twice.
Give him a chance, I received the wrong ones too. It took a day or two for him to get back with me. He emailed me back and told me the same thing. I have already sent mine back for an exchange.
Can anybody tell me what would happen if i were to put a PAL Wii backup in a modded Wii that is only configured for NTSC? Because i think all the PAL copies i have do not work.
If you still have the packaging, pack it back in the same package, cross out your address and mark it return to the sender. That way you don't have to pay postage to send it back. That's what I always do.
Now im pretty sure i can backup my wii games no problem, i understand all the info given, but, heres a real question to rack your brains. Where do i go to find out if my wii is PAL or NTSC?
Nothing would happen. Literally. PAL doesn't work with NTSC. NTSC doesn't work with PAL. It's that simple.
US. I jumped the gun and am trying to dump a wii game with raw dump and my dvd drive that came with my PC 3-4 yrs ago. Funny thing is that its working so far, its dumping at 1197 mb/hr, and is about 25% done. Im sure when it reaches around 99.9% it will fail or something. If it doesnt im gonna do the chicken dance!
HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDR8161B0100 Ive ran the same game 2x and its showing up as a rar 4.37GB just like its supposed to but when i go to extract it says "no archives found" I didnt really expect this to work on my 3 yr old factory installed dvd drive.
Ok here is the lowdown. My Wii is modded with the d2c chip. Now if its modded it should be able to play NTSC, PAL and NTSC Japan. Coming back to my question, What would happen if i put a PAL in a standard non-modded Wii? What error message would appear on the screen? Thanks for all input.
NO. Not at all. Modding will not allow it to play PAL if it's NTSC, and vice versa. That is built into your tv. If you put a PAL game into a NTSC, you will see the game in the "channel", but once you click start, it will come up black and do nothing.
