hi there, thx for taking the time out to post this thread i found it really helpful but i have a question before i start burning resident evil 5, i have a "matshita BD-CMB uj-120 ATA" dvd-drive...it's in my HP laptop and it says "DVD+RW DL" on the side...does anyone know if this drive will work burning 360 games?? because i heard u need a particular brand of drives and someone told me that laptop DL drives may not work, TIA.

oh and i forgot to ask, what about the layerbreak thing?? i read in another guide u have to choose "change book tyoe" and a drive brand (the choice of my "matshita drive is not available) on imgburn then put in some "layerbreak code"??

    1. DVD+R DL will work for your drive.
    2. You don't have to book-type. The .dvd file will contain the layer-break info.

When burning you can see this text on the program

    " XGD2DVD_NTSC "

Does this matter or make a difference when playing on a PAL console, the reason I´m asking, will this cause a problem if playing online in Xbox Live on a Xbox 360 PAL?

This would depend of if the game is region free. Check the NFO that came with the games. If its not the correct region then it will not work

But the program Imgburn automaticlly has that NTSC text in the software when burning. Maybe someone else has noticed it, when burning it really doesn´t matter what region the file is but anyway on the upper right corner there is a text saying NTSC something. How come?

Because you can get games which say NTSC but are actually region free and work on PAL. I have seen it a few times but as long as ABGX and the NFO states its region free then it will work

    Thanks for the answers.

One more question, do I need to set a booktype if I use this guide? Because I havn´t really noticed this guide saying that you need to choose that alternative.

Quoted myself since people cannot read.

You DO NOT have to book-type. I did not include it in my guide because....YOU DO NOT have to book-type.

Again, you DO NOT have to book-type. Do you have to book-type? No. Negative. Nope.

I've been searching all over but haven't found the solution yet. Hope you guys will help. I have a Philips DVD+RW DVD8601 6D11 (ATA) with DL writing capabilities. I'm using the latest imgburn 2.4.4 and Verbatim dl dvd discs. I've followed the burning instructions exactly as specified on the guide and checked the layer break every time. There are no new updates for my drive and I've had my pc (and drive) since 2003. The drive brand isn't listed on the booktype settings of imgburn either. I've tried burning a couple of games 3 times (@ 2.4x, have both the .iso and .dvd files) I've even checked them with abgx360 and no issues there either. I get no error messages while burning the dvds. However, every time I try to play it I get the 'Disc read error' message. I had my 360 flahsed (no mod chip) and the guy even gave me a burned copy of Call Of Duty 4 (which works perfect). What am I doing wrong? Is a new dvd drive the answer? Thanks in advance.

Also the Verbatim dvds I have are made in Singapore and the Call Of Duty 4 copy is on a TDK disc.

Yeah it seems that you will need a new DVD burner.

Just wanting to ask if any type of different FW needs to be applied to a new DVD burner that will do DVD+R DL for the 360 games. I have a Pioneer 112d that was flashed with FW to be able to burn 360 games and the drive is starting to crap out. I didn't want to buy a burner off newegg and have it not work because of FW that is not compatible. Also would the new burner need to be able to just do DVD+R DL or can it also have the DVD-R DL feature along with DVD+R DL and still be okay?

You will not need to flash in any special firmware. Any new drive that can burn DVD+R DL will do.
