Update the burner's firmware, because the firmware installed is old. Use Verbatims instead of Ritek.

So updating the driver should be the fix?

Not necessarily, but it's what I would do first if I was you. If you have no luck after installing the latest firmware, get some Verbatims and try those. The guy who created ImgBurn is forever telling people to just buy Verbatims on the ImgBurn forum, but people always seem to want to cut corners even when good advice is constantly rammed down their throats, lol. No offence, it's just that it's been said on here so many times.

That burner's been around for years. The 1.37 firmware that you have installed on it is also a few years old. The latest firmware on the ASUS site is 1.41. Go here and put the model number into the search box, top left: -

    http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

You will only know that after you update the firmware. There's no guarantee that Verbatims will work on it either, because it's an old drive that hasn't been updated in ages, but at least if you do end up having to buy a new drive, you'll already have some discs to use with it. :D

Hey everyone, so I've combed through the threads here and all over the net....I don't see in plain view simple ways to backup a game, disc to disc. I'm talking about popping in the original disc in a DVD ROM drive, and simply burning it to a blank DVDR+DL disc in my writer drive. I have found ways of downloading games via the net and using a program just fine for that, but can't seem to find a simple disc to disc solution.....downloading games is too slow for my taste. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi hope someone can help me. I am new to burning games. I just bought a Samsung SE-S084 and am using cheapo Memorex disks(yeah, I know everyone says not to, but the guy /i have been getting games from uses them and has no problem). I am trying to burn XBOX 360 games and keep getting errors. I am using Imgburn and doing everything in this tutorial. Keeps telling me "set l0 data zone capacity failed reason the semaphore timeout period has expired". So what am I doing wrong? I am trying to burn them from my external hard drive, if that makes any difference. Here is the log from ImgBurn

I did a bit of reading on that error and it seems to be a communication error between your external HDD and your burner. Try making a copy of the ISO on your main drive and burning from there.

Could be a permissions issue with the folders. Doesn't really matter I guess if the workaround works out for you.

    Check this out, too:

I don't know if it matters, but I just successfully burned a regular cd-r of music using ImgBurn and from my desktop, which is where I had the game I was trying to burn. Does that tell me it's just the cheap discs I'm trying to use?

I read about several other people also being able to burn CDRs, but not DVDRs, so that sounds about par for the course.

Try logging on as Administrator and seeing if that fixes it.

I didn't do a whole lot of digging, but it seems like people just ended up replacing their burner a lot of the time =\

You may want to try seeing if there is an updated firmware for your burner before going so far, though.

Firmware was my first step. Hope I can return this. Anyone got any good suggestions for good and cheap external burners?

My advice would be to get a regular internal desktop burner with decent reviews and put it into an external casing, rather than buy an "external" burner.

Please excuse my ignorance, but would that work with a lap top?
