Hi. I have an 8.2gb dvd iso and want to burn it to a dvd+r dl disc (verb). I tried imgburn but didn't know where to put the layerbreak so I left it to it's own devices. It did successfully burn both layers but it wont play in my standalone player and it locks my computer up when I try to play it there.

What am I doing wrong? I'm not a complete newbie, I manage my 360 games great but this is my first attempt at dl dvd.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Derek.

What files are in the ISO?
When ImgBurn asks for a layer break position you can preview where you would like to have it or you can just select the green or blue star.
    Post your ImgBurn log.

Hi. Thanks for helping. There is only the iso file you were looking for a mds file?). How do you get to the layerbreak preview? I know what you mean about the star/colour thing to select the best layerbreak position, I've seen it before, but I can't seem to get to it.

    Thanks.

Yeah, after posting the log I realised I had used my last 'aone' disc as a guinea pig for my first attempt. I'll try a Verb and get back to you.
    Thanks again.

No luck. same result with a verb. Unfortunately no log as imgburn locked up after verifying.
Dunno if you can still advise?
    Cheers.

There should still be a log up to the failure point.

No. Only the 1st log already posted. I had to manually end 'not responing' imgburn, hence I suppose that's why the log didn't save. I'll try again and post that one.
    Cheers.

I'de like to add to deek72 post, if I may without derailing it....
When he says he leaves it to it's "own device" , I believe what he's saying is he doesn't have the .mds file and when loading, instead of getting the screen with the layer break possibilities (blue, green, etc... stars) he gets the message
"Optimal L1 Data Zone Start LBA: None Found!(VTS_0?)
This image has not been mastered correctly for burning onto a double layer (OTP Track Path) disc.
Do you want to continue anyway
    Yes No "

I get this error with quit a few .iso's also and after some hit/miss with this option, I quit using it as the D/L Disk are too expensive to waste.
Is there a better burning program to use for .Iso's with this problem ?
I love imgburn, but can't afford to loose any more disc.
I'm willing to Re-Author the .Iso (unrar into VIDEO_TS Folder) if it will fix the problems if anybody could point the way to fix the problem.

Open the ISO with DVD Shrink and backup to a new folder. Then let ImgBurn create a new ISO or just burn the VIDEO_TS folder.

Thanks... I'll give that a shot.
Is it better to use DVDShrink then it is to just use winrar to extract ?
I guess what I mean is does DVDShrink check and correct any problems when extracting the files or just a better program then winrar for .ISO's ?

If there is a problem with the files, Shrink will not open the ISO.

Thank You dialysis1... That worked :)
Out of curiosity, if the ISO plays fine with vlc, is it OK to just use winrar ? I don't have shrink on my other computer and would rather not install it if necessary.
When using the "Build Mode" in imgburn for the folder it gave me 3 places to put the layer break. Unfortunately, they where all 3 grey (average) so I chose the 2nd one and burned.
Plays fine on PC and now watching it on standalone, checking for the infamous "skip" in the middle while crossing my fingers.
I compared deek72's log against mine and don't see any errors, but I'm not the most knowledgeable in that area.

Deek72 If you didn't get a question as to where to set the layer break, what exactly do you mean by "left it to it's own devices" ?
I noticed I'm using Version 2.4.1.0 and Version 2.3.2.0 so may be a new feature since yours is 2.4.2.0 ?
I would definitely suggest turning your burn speed down thou (I used 2.4x) and then dialysis1 suggestion if no luck.

    Let us know...

Glad to hear you got it.
You don't have to install DVD Shrink if you don't want it but it's a great little tool to have even if you don't use it for shrinking. I never shrink with it. It's a good tool to check if your files are DVD compliant. If Shrink fails to open your files, you'll know there's a problem that needs to be fixed before you try to burn.

I meant that I read somewhere (can't remember where) and it said that if you didn't specify a layerbreak Imgburn could calculate one itself dependand on the size of the Iso. It did appear to write 2 layers (layer 0 + layer 1.
I did burn the 2nd attempt (on a Verb) at 2.4.

I have since got a dvd-r version of the film and that's fine but I will try Dialysis's method out of curiosity.
Thanks for your advice guys and I'll let you know.

I think it may be the Iso. Dvdshrink reports an 'error, invalid UDF file system'. Mounted with Daemon- 'windows cannot read from disk, may be corrupt' etc. drag onto Gomplayer-audio but no video, Vlc-nothing.

I'll try again when I get another DL sized iso.

    Thanks all.

    Oh Snap :-O
I'm so sorry I forgot the obvious Deek72....
Making sure it's a working .ISO . I had just assumed you had already checked it was an working .ISO and didn't even think to mention checking it first.
I always run mine thru vlc to check the quality first to see if the extras are worth keeping and for any director commentaries and such.
If it's @5GB, I will even throw it thru DVDFab and see if I can remove enough stuff I don't want to get it down to a DVD-5 .
Don't waste another D/L disk on that .ISO
Like you mentioned.. Daemon tools is great for checking for non-video DVD's (games) B-4 even trying to burn to a disk also.

I'll take your advice and install shrink dialysis1
It was alcohol120% that gave my vista machine (quit laughing... :p ) a fit. Was an older version and the virtual device drivers caused BSOD... even in safe mode. What a mess that was.

RE : "it said that if you didn't specify a layerbreak Imgburn could calculate one itself dependand on the size of the Iso."
That's true... when you click the burn button it should have popped up a new screen giving you options on the best places to put the layer break.
I really think you got an bad .ISO ......

ok I tried this for the first time and failed, I have a 8.2GB ISO with an .MDS file went to select .iso using dvd decrypter and it selected .mds file instead for me. Burned fine till 97% then gave an error and tried to finalize but failed after a while. Any ideas plz? I used 8x write speed, maybe to fast?
