    Hey

I converted an XVID file to a DVD file with another program, which took about 2.5 hours... which is normal

now, im using NERO 7 Nero Vision to burn this DVD, and also to make a menu, i made a great menu for this DVD, had chapters and everything, so anyways, when i get to the burning part, it doesnt go directly to burning, it starts copying it to hard drive first, (transcoding, copying...) which takes ANOTHER 2 hours!!! im not going to wait that long, ive tried all the few options there are to turn off copy to hard drive, why doesnt it just burn directly from the original DVD files i imported... its like its converting the dvd to dvd for no reason... is there another way of burning my current dvd files with a menu made in nero without having any transcoding process being done...

i got a huge headache already, maybe spending 6 hours trying to figure this stuff out

maybe someone here knows some other amazing programs to make a dvd menu and to burn the dvd with that menu? I really wanna use Nero because the menu rocks, but apparently it just takes too long...

please help me out, thanks in advance

    happy holidays!

It sounds like you may be in PIO mode on one or more of your drives. Just a guess. Check it with Nero Info Tool and you should see something like this: All your DMAs should be ON.

That info tool is a great little program. Just click thru the tabs, and see if you can see anything strange going on.
Also check out your ASPI layers while you are in there:

It shouldn't take that long even if you transcode to the HD again.

    Sunquest,
after you finished converting to DVD and have your movie saved to a video_ts folder close Vision Express and open up Nero Burning ROM. Make sure you select, under new compilation, DVD>DVD Video, click new. On the right hand pane find your saved video_ts folder move it to the left hand pane to the VIDEO_TS folder. Now you are ready to burn. If your pc is set up right and your conversion was right it shouldn't take you hours, maybe about 15 minutes or so for a single sided DVD at 4X speed.

i know what you mean, but ur not getting me hehe

i need to create a menu!!! (authorize) the dvd, so is there no way to simply create a menu without having any program to copy the VOB files again and again.... cant i just create a menu in 5 minutes, and then add it into the folder with the dvd files... and then just burn that in 15 minutes?

Sorry for not understanding your question. Let my try again. Do you have TMPGEnc DVD Author? I am asking because I didnt use Nero vision for such task, I mean building menues. Anyway it might work the same way. If my understanding is correct you do not want to do conversions over and over right? So here is the deal, since your divx file has no menues, you have no choice but to convert them over and over, unless, you save the converted file to a folder on your hard disk and burn from there anytime you want the same movie. Or just copy it from the disk you have already burned. Hope this helps.

Well I dont have the DIVX without a menu, i have a DVD without a menu

    you know,
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB
    ...

if you meant this by DIVX then sorry for my misunderstanding

otherwise, is there a way to create a menu for this dvd in a quick 5 minute step?

You can create the menu fast. But it has to be reauthored each time you want to create a menu for a dvd. The reason for this is because the menu has to link to the vobs (chapters, pgc, and such). So the creation of the menu is a no brainer but the linking it to a dvd has to be in authoring. Its not really conversion each time but authoring.

Well menus to my on my backups are useless to begain with. I would rather have an auto play movie with the space better used for quality. After all its a backup.

I do however sometimes make dvds of my grandsons events and such. Then I do spend the time to make nice menus for multi titles and such. That way when copys are sent to the family and friends I have creation braging rights.
