Hello. I don't use mkv files. but try ConvertXtoDVD. It has a free trial although it watermarks its output. It lists mkv as a file type. http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/ There's also the free avi2dvd: http://www.free-codecs.com/Avi2Dvd_download.htm
tjay17 I also do not use that format either so I Googled and the info below is from the Matroska site and tell you in detail how to do it. Read it first as it is pretty time consuming and you will need to purchase some programs. http://www.matroska.org/technical/guides/dvd/index.html
seriously whats the advantagne oof .mkvs it seems they are just another hassle! btw: if one episode in mkv is 273mb, then how many episodes should I fit with high qualty on a dvd-5?
AlltoAvi http://alltoavi.sourceforge.net/ works good and it's free....I've only converted one mkv file but it went smoothly. Converted it to Divx then used ConvertXtoDVD(which kept giving me errors trying to use it to convert the mkv file)to convert and burn to DVD. I tried the mpeg option in AlltoAvi but that didn't work so I went with the Divx option. Oh and BurningAs, the mkv file was reduced in size when converted to a Divx file by maybe 20% if i remember correctly.
Hi there, VSO ConvertXtoDVD v2.1 ßeta will be released very soon. Support for several video formats were updated, and some new one added. Maybe v2.1 will handle .MKV files a little better than v2.0.17 Stay tunes !
which of these programs will allow me to keep the multiple audio tracks and suptitle tracks in the mkv file
You can try it manually. Extract the files from within the .mkv using MKVtoolnix with mkvextractgui for easier use. You can get both from http://www.matroska.org/downloads/windows.html You will get something like .avi, .aac/.mp3, .srt, etc... You can then import these into most software. I am sure both mentioned here (convertXtoDVD & avi2dvd) support all these files. If with the audio you get multichannel aac files, you can convert them to 6-wav mono with Besweet for encoding into Dolby Digital 5.1EX or DTS.
Hey tjay17, Did you give VSO ConvertXtoDVD v2.1.0.148 a try ? Getting good results, bad results. If you had issues, I would love to see them, so I can share with the VSO Developpers.
Hi there, If you still have it, may I see the conversion log please ? I would like to follow up with VSO if there's something wrong with the software and nothing with your files.
Hi there, ConvertXtoDVD log are here: [bold]C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\Vso[/bold] OR from the application, in the help menu, there's an Open Log File. Copy and paste the whole section *** End Here *** section with the video .mkv problems *** Starts Here ***
