    No problem MrBeefy :) Nice to help people that actually appreciate it every once in a while! It sounds like you are burning correctly, so you should see a big difference using better media. I have Tenkaichi 2, and it works flawlessly. Keep us updated if using better DVD's helps you out, far too many people think that media means nothing :/

    Here is a link to other worthwhile media:

    thanks stang. i checked a few threads on this site and around the net and found instructions on how to open up the case and clean the laser... but i was just wondering if anyone else had the same scenario happen to them.

    most instructions are for Disc Read Errors. and i dont think just staying on the browser screen and not reading is really an actual "disc read error". cool. thanks again.

    has this ever happened to anyone? and i'd love to [please hear any more ideas!

    @Talon

    LOL thanks man, here to help....i think :)

    @WabbaJ

    Thats an interesting scenario. So pressed copies work, backups that originated from blur bottomed ps2 disks dont?? Try backing up a movie and load it on your ps2, and see how that works, it should work perfect even without a mod. Hmmm....I would go to a local store, buy the smallest quantity of -Rs you can find, then make another backup using the original image off the pressed disk. If the -R doesnt work, then its a laser issue, and would try the q-tip and rubbing alcohol fix. If that doesnt work, time to replace the laser.

    i have actually had that problem myself, even with origonals, sometimes i have to turn my ps2 on and off, eject and reload, it is on one of my older ps2s. i finally gave up and bought a new one but mine was not modded

    my games would eventually load if i waited long enough

    @stang

    thanks for the ideas man. i had thought it might come to that. i think i might end up trying it in the christmas break-- i dont want to get my head stuck in there with school to worry about right now. but thanks again, and i'll keep looking and let you all know if something comes up.

    @problems

    that sucks :) but thats just how a ps2 is i guess. i know what youre talking about; ejecting the disc, turning off power, putting the disc back in, the whole cycle continues for 15 minutes. ya, i hate it. i'll prolly end up opening her up and tinkering sometime :)

    thank you both, and please feel free to make a note of anything you might come across or remember. thanks againm ;)

    hey again stang... Tokijin, ya :)

    i was reading a few threads that him and one named Mik3e put together and it pretty much covered everything on how to take apart the ps2, clean the lens, check out what works with trial and error, and then finally put it back together. in the same post was a "how to" for rebuilding games. i know who youre talking about so thats cool-- really sseems to know his stuff-- and punts people for using bad media ;)

    so please do let him know my deal. and no rush, its a favor and u can take your time for sure. thanks boss!

    i have burned pe6 (ps2 format) onto my harddrive using dvd decrypter and its created 2 files an iso file and an mds image it used to create an mds file an another file i think.. all other games burnt ok but now its gone wrong since i downloaded winrar.

    now the images come up with a tick on a cd this never used to be there

    @stang- no really, i wasnt being too sarcastic.. :)

    @WabbaJ- i had that problem, my PS2 wouldn't even read anything!! not backups, not regular, not even music CDs!!!!So i opened up the case (screws at bottom) then took out the four tiny screws on the DVD drive, cleaned the head with Som H2O2, put it back together and has worked ever since, about six months.

    @danny- when you RIP with DVDDecrypter you get an .MDS and an .ISO, but when you install WinRAR it automatically becomes the default opener for .ISO's!!!!

    Uninstall WinRAR, reinstall- this time making sure that the little box in front of iso's is not checked, then it will default to the original and you can burn it just fine....blah...blah blah

    Sory for such a long post guys

    @Tyler (talon55),

    thanks for your feedback, much appreciated. so, i guess youre giving me some motivation to try cleaning out the laser. BUT...

    you cleaned it with "Som H2O2"... is that some sort of hydroperoxide solution? is it store bought or a "solvent"? i thought isopropanol (aka isopropyl alcohol & rubbing alcohol) should do the trick.

    could you please pass me some words on solution choice? thanks! ;)

    Hey svtstang thankyou for telling me about the media and to let you know It worked great. Thank you so much and the type of media I used was Sony DVD-R because the YUDEN wasn't availible.

    I love you man

    No probs MrBeefy, had a pretty good feeling it was your media that was causing problems. Trust me, I used to make the same mistakes. Then I learned that 30/100 should not be coasters, and 40 of the 70 that did work should not stop working after a half a year. Either way, glad you got it figured out. Have fun :D

    @Wabba- hey, no problem

    Sorry about the h202, im in chem class so i think of everything that way,

    it is simply Hydrogen Peroxide, picked up at longs for like, 2 bucks. i don't know if anything else will work... sry but im sure any cleaning solution will work.

    hey Tyler,

    dont worry about being too chemistry oriented. its my background too. ya, hydrogen peroxide--i could prolly get some from the lab if i checked....hmm... i think i'll stick with isopropanol since i know a lot of guides suggest it, and ps2 repair companies even try to sell it. but thanks for the reply.

    Yo what about the mod chip for the ps2 you sure you don't need that to be able to play the Playstation game
