I tried to copy an original PS2 DVD disk and had no luck. I'm leaning towards the possibility that the burn speed is the issue. I was sold this burner as a Benq and when I tried to update the firmware I got message this was not a Benq burner. So, am going to open the computer and do a visual on the burner to find out who manufactured it and then look for an update for the 1X issue. When I set the program to burn 1X it still burns as 2.4X.

    Here's my experiences:

Using a Plextor 708A, winxp pro, and AthlonXP2800, I tried ripping and backing up GTA:SA and MGS3 using DVD Decrypter and Ritek05 inkjet printable dvd-r (at 1x). I got past the title screen but it froze after a couple of minutes of gameplay.

I didn't think it was the modchip because it did its job by bypassing the boot sector scan. So I decided to upgrade the firmware and use Memorex DVD-R discs and tested GTASA and MGS3 with success. I played each for about 2 hours without any glitches, slowdowns, or suspicious actions.

Although I wouldn't say that Memorex's are the best media, it worked for me. But I'm not sure if it's because of the media, or the fact that i upgraded the firmware. I'll test burn another copy with the riteks again, since those have never failed me in backing up movies.

    Hey,
I am just backing up a dvd.I used dvd decrypter to read .iso and then decrypt. I am just about to burn image with Nero 6 and was just wondering what to do with the 5kb MDS file that was also created when backing up? Thanks for any assistance =o)

Sorry but that just confused me more...
I have a .iso (4.35 GB) and an .MDS file (5kb), from backing up a disk with dvd decrypter. When I open nero, i choose the option "burn image to disk", and it only allows me to choose files with the extension, .iso .cue or .nrg. Also once I have chosen the .iso file it automatically moves to the "burn compilation" screen. So what do I actually need the .MDS file for and how do I burn it with the .iso if thats what is needed? Otherwise I can just burn the .iso no problems but I not sure if the game would play?!? I'm sorry im just new to this...THANKS!!

MDS is a extension which connects all the other files together

You can't burn a torrent file. Torrent files are used to direct what to d/l. So, if you get a ps2 game torrent file, you need to use a program like bittorrent to d/l the actual game.
Once you get the game files, i would image it will either be in .iso file format or compressed with winrar.

    FESTING..
I'm in Oz (sydney) and just bought the swap magic v3.3 and slide tool for my bro. It took me about half an hour to work out last night and set up but my brother absolutely loves me now lol
It allows you to play backups of original games PAL and NTSC and it plays .iso files burnt to a disk of a PS2 game.
    EXACTLY how it works..
1.When your cd tray is open, on the very end is a front cover usually has a PS2 lil label on it, it is taken off so you can get to under the cd tray when the PS2 is running (its very easy its just clipped on and some PS2's have a screw)
2.The "black" swap magic disk is inserted into to the ps2
2.The slide tool slots just under the cd tray (hence why we took the front cover off it) and it hooks onto the tray and pulls it out without the ps2 knowing (smart lil thing lol)
    3. The backup disk is put in and u push the tray closed, then the tool is used to "hook" the tray back where it was (just by sliding it again)
    4. AND THATS IT! you press enter and you play your games!!
I'd REALLY recommend it, especially over a modchip, they are so expensive and void warranty. Go to realgamer.com.au, they sell them for $34.95+$4.00 shipping (came within 2 days)...And if your like my bro you can go crazy playing whatever games you wish...Hope this helps a little =O)

Great advice here but what I can't get my head round is why you can't clone a PS2 DVD ROM so that the PS2 can't tell whether its the original or copy. What code do they hide in the disc that Nero and others can't replicate? If someone could bottle it, just might sell. Aren't we allowed to make one-off copies as back up anyway, I won't abuse it, honest!

i read the questions some people as in this thread, and it just just hilarious. Like "Do I need a DVD burner to burn games?" or the recent "How do you burn torrent files?" If you don't know than are obviously not smart enough to do a search, and if are too dumb to do a search you shouldn't even try backing up a game in the first place. i used to come here for info, but recently the forum has been flooded with pathetic newbie questions that have been answered before many times.
