Man I think that I if my Swap Magic messes up or something then when I get something else. It'll be the Crystal Chip. But right now my Swap Magic is working just fine. Remember I just started doing this since after Christmas. I think the Swap Magic and this Site is the best thing that every happened to me as far as for my enjoyment. But yeah I might consider getting that Crystal Chip next time I need a mod. I also know that it feels good for yall not to have to keep swapping everytime you put a backup in.

Man I must be a sucker to answer the same questions over and over. Mikaru I know you're new here so I can't hold the collective sins of noobs past against you. In the future, check the stickies at the top of the forums, they contain all the info you'll need to get started in the world of PS2 backups. Check the PS2 FAQ link in my sig, that's where these questions are copied from. Cheers!

    1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
    A. Use DVD Decrypter.
    Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on a quality 8x DVD-R.

    2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
    A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/240341
If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc.
CMC Magnetics is garbage. Need proof (Thanks to Alkohol):
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/262544
If you really want to do the PS2 backup thing right, pick up some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's. I only burn to TYG02, the 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's. So far I've never had a lag, skip, freeze, or boot failure since I switched to Taiyo Yuden's. With results like that, why would I use anything else? The brand of media you use means very little.
The key determinant of media quality is the Media ID. For info on the Media ID, check the bottom of this thread.

    DVD-R Media Quality Review: http://www.cdr-zone.com/articles/recordable_dvd_quality_page_1.html

    3. Q. Do I need some type of mod to play PS2 backups or imports?
    A. Yes you need a modchip: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 Swap Magic: http://swapmagic3.com/ Memory Card Exploit (Doesn't work with v.11 PS2 and later): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289 HD Loader: http://www.hdloader.com.au/hardinstall#prepare or

C'mon now it's not like that. It's just this question gets asked 20 times a day, so I get a little tired of answering it. Now you know about the stickies at the top forums and the search button. If the answer to your question isn't covered there, then post about it. Cheers!

@zacer You need to install it and flash it in order to play backups/imports. Do you have the DMS 4 EZI Pro or Lite?

@DomHo Does your test station allow you to play backups/imports? If yes, then it's probably a cheap media problem. Get some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's.

    86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
    A. http://www.supermediastore.com
Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buyerguides/buymedia.htm

    106. Q. Where I can find top notch Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media locally?
    A. This is somewhat of a crap shoot. Big manufacturer's like Fuji, Sony, and Maxell have at one point past or present payed Taiyo Yuden to manufacture media for them. The big companies slap their name on the label even though the discs were manufactured in Japan by Taiyo Yuden. These discs will always be made in Japan. Authentic TY media isn't made anywhere else. Even if it says Made in Japan on the label, there is no gauruntee of getting authentic Taiyo Yuden media. You could still end up with Sony or Fuji media codes. Hence why I said this is a crap shoot. Places like Comp USA, Office Depot, Sam's Club, and Staples will carry Made In Japan branded discs. Again there is no way to know for sure from the package whether these are authentic Taiyo Yuden's. If you don't want to risk getting non TY discs, you can find 50 packs of Verbatim in the afore mentioned chain stores. One other alternative is the Made in Japan High Grade Maxell DVD+R's. They will say Made in Japan on the label and "High Grade" as well. These are excellent media. Remember when using DVD+R's, it's best you have a burner that supports booktyping/bitsetting, and a v.4 PS2 or later. Much thanks goes to kivory666 aka "docTY" for this information. He is indeed the Taiyo Yuden master. The best place to get authentic Taiyo Yuden media is from reputable online vendors like http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.rima.com http://www.meritline.com or http://www.newegg.com

Flash it with Toxic OS. Did you install it successfully? Be careful when installing it, a ton of people have butchered their PS2's installing the no solder chips.

    104. Q. I can't get my DMS 4 or Matrix Infinity to boot backups/imports, what's going on?
    A. You need to flash the chip with the latest firmware to boot backups and imports.
DMS 4 Pro SE or Pro: http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=3138141

    Alcohol 120%: http://www.free-downloads.net/programs/Alcohol_120_

Burn the Firmware to CD-R with these instructions:
    1. Unzip the firmware.
    2. Insert your blank disc.
    3. Open Alcohol 120%.
    4. Go to File-->Open and browse to the cue file. Double click it.
    5. Once it's open under Alcohol 120%, right click the cue file and click image burning wizard.
    6. Select your recorder, leave the write method alone, set the write speed to 4x, set the datatype to PS2, and click next

Verbatim DVD-R's or DVD+R's should be fine. Go with 8x Verbatim DVD-R's for best compatibility. DVD+R's are best if used with v.4 PS2's and later and if your burner supports booktyping/bitsetting.

I've got a few questions, I know that once you burn a ps or ps2 game you need to have a modchip or swap magic but is there any stores that sell swap magic? I'd perfer not to buy it off the internet. Also I was wondering, If you do burn a ps2 game to a dvd can you use that dvd to just play it on the computer? Cause I don't have a ps mod chip so I guess it wouldn't be so bad to just play them on an emulator with the burnt dvd. Thanks

no, there are no stores that sell, NONE at all. and no, you need the iso on the computer, not on a dvd.
