Received a copy of an European DVD (unprotected) concert. Unable to convert it into a viewable DVD in NTSC format. All software known to me would render coasters... Resulting DVDs could only be seen on PC! Error in plenty of DVD players I tried: such as 'Incompatible Zone format' (though DVD Shrink was used for re-authoring as 'all zones'). Pinnacle Studio 10 says: "unable to view PAL format"... after rendering VOB files into a large MPG file... Q: Is there a reliable program(s) capable of converting from PAL to NTSC, or perhaps, methods unknown to me in existent programs?
I use WinAVI which works very well. I uasly run the PAL DVD through CloneDVD and take out all languages and subtitles that I do not want. Then I import the VOB files of the movie into WinAVI and convert to DVD (NTSC) You could also use Nero Vision to do this. You will lose any menu that the DVD has by doing this.
Thanks to both of you, larrylje, 300bowler! Like you said, I'm not keen to give my CCard to offshore people to get CloneDVD. I tried instead: DVDFab Decrypter, DVD Decrypter 3.5.4, DVDShrink 3.2 - first to remove unwanted titles. Burning after with NeroVision Express all VOBs resulted in a PAL copy, playable only on PC. My question is: what did I miss in all these programs to CONVERT the PAL version of VOB files into NTSC files/DVD movie, playable on any stand-alone DVD player? Or simply to Generate PAL-VOBs during first ripping? Also, is it possible to convert/ burn DVD content in PAL format?
Nerovision is what converts the PAL VOB files to NTSC VOB files. You need to make sure the Video Mode is set to NTSC in NeroVision Express. If it is set to (automatic) then Nero Vision will keep whatever format (PAL)(NTSC) that the orignal file was in. So if it is a PAL format it will output PAL. If it is NTSC then it will output NTSC. This is why you need to change the Video Mode to NTSC. That way when you import a PAL video file it will convert it to NTSC. You will get a warning when your ready to convert the video files saying (There is more PAL in your project then NTSC would you like to change to PAL) choose NO when it ask this. Change the Video Mode to NTSC by doing the below... You Also might want to change the Audio Format to DD5.1 do this by choosing video options again and folowing the directions below. Doing this will keep your DD5.1 audio intact. Other words it could convert your DD5.1 to DD2.0 if it is set at DD2.0
Nero Vision can handle the job, but VobBlanker is free and fast. You can do more things with VobBlanker (i.e. PAL to NTSC or NTSC to PAL, blank out, cut or edit out unwanted scenes, cells, FBI Warnings, Previews, Extras, etc.)
Alkohol, thanks! but my skills and the learning curve of VOBblanker make all too... tough! Larrylje, your detailed advice was great! Thanks for the time and effort you took!
