DVD Flick will convert AVI (and others) to DVD format.
On the top menu of the program, click 'Guide'.
It can burn the disk using it's included burning app (ImgBurn) and will optionally output a menu for the disk.

Xillisoft AVI to DVD converter will make an ISO for you then use whatever burning program you like to burn it I would say imgburn is my favorite does most of my burns in 5-7 minutes and thats the whole movie with extras and menus

Subscribed, as once Xillisoft is mentioned spammers will be attracted to this thread.

DVD Flick (free) has already been suggested, Xillisoft is therefore redundant

Not a spammer just what I use and how is it redundant its just another program the person could use its giving that person more options then one program.

At first i thought you were a spammer and the only reason you're still here is that i checked your other posts. 99% of the people that suggest such programs are spammers and that's why i'm subscribed. We don't disallow suggestions of such products by non-spammers, though there are better alternatives, hence my comment about it being redundant.
Choice is always good, however if it was me suggesting a paid alternative it would be ConvertXtoDVD, but DVD Flick is free and an excellent suggestion, i use both heavily myself.

Yea I downloaded dvdflick tested it out but to me xill is easier to use I think much simpliar but hey I paid for it before I knew about dvdflick so oh well. I mainly use my combo of anydvd in the background with dvdshrink then burn with imgburn I've tested out clonedvd2 but if the target size is to big it transcodes it and I think makes the quality just a little less then the actual dvd.

I prefer ConvertXtoDVD, then burning with imgburn.

Don't think that you always need to convert to an ISO. You can just burn the DVD files (TS_Video) folder (made with ConvertXtoDVD or others) directly with Imgburn, then just booktype it to DVD-ROM before burning.

If you "need" to make an ISO, then you can open the DVD files in DVD Shrink and export and ISO with or without any compression. You can also add more movies to the ISO or remove unwanted audio/subtitles to save space using the "re-author" tab.

Read through these guides too, it will make it easier for you next time:
