I downloaded a TV series, "Das Boot," in 3 CDs with .SRT video codecs. I was able to convert 2 of them, CD2 and CD3, to AVI, but then I stopped converting them, and now that I am trying to convert CD1, I do not remember the program I used.

Most programs I find are to convert .SRT subtitles. Yes, I have the .SRT subtitles, with the same name as the CDs, but I have no problems with the subtitles, and don't need to convert them, as they come out integrated in the .AVI version.

I need to find a program to convert .SRT video files to .AVI, period. I know there is one out there, since I used it once, but can't remember its name now.

If anyone out there knows what I am talking about, I welcome your suggestions.

Please do not make any suggestions about converting .SRT subtitles. That is not my problem.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not clear on what you are looking for.
Since the .srt file is a text file - it cannot be converted to video.

If you are referring to integrating the subtitles into the AVI video (xsubs) so that they can be turned on and off with the remote, then there are a number of programs that do this.

Well, I knew that was going to be the beginning of this searching saga, as I have seen that answer in about every forum I have visited, but not posted.

Here are the names of the files I received, exactly as I got them,

    Das.Boot.miniseries.original.uncut.reevel.cd1.of.3
    Das.Boot.miniseries.original.uncut.reevel.cd2.of.3
    Das.Boot.miniseries.original.uncut.reevel.cd3.of.3
Das Boot Miniseries Original Uncut-Reevel CD1 Of 3
Das Boot Miniseries Original Uncut-Reevel CD2 Of 3
Das Boot Miniseries Original Uncut-Reevel CD3 Of 3

When I hover over them, they all say "Type: SRT File, Size: [...] KB, Date Modified: [Date and time]"

The sizes correspond between "...cd1.of.3" and "...CD1 Of 3", etc., in this order: "...cd1.of.3" and "...CD1 Of 3", 60.1 KB, as in the example above; then "...cd2.of.3" and "...CD2 Of 3", 42.5 KB; and the last one "...cd3.of.3" with "...CD3 Of 3," with 49.0 KB.

Above files "...CD2 Of 3," and "...CD3 Of 3," are the two converted AVI files, the former with 626 MB, and the latter with 617 MB. I converted those at some point, but stopped in the middle of the project, and don't remember how I did it (shame on me:), or simply, I don't remember if I had problems converting CD1, the only one without an AVI version.

Here is the webpage where I dwld the files from, with further details about the content of the files,

    http://www.h33t.com/details.php?id=706c87061e8515a0fec459b38ed9ce309cdd212e

Even though it says "...Video Codec............: DivX 5.0.2," in the details about the 3 CDs, I didn't see that in the original files.

What am I missing in my seeing, I wonder?

Thanks for your interest on helping me, appreciate any suggestions you might have to resolve this issue.

    Regards,

    Jaragua

PS: I have no problems muxing or converting files from known video codecs. This one in particular has turned out to be a tough cookie. :)

    One more thing.

The "..CD2 Of 3.AVI" and "...CD3 Of 3.AVI," play perfectly well, subtitles and all, in DivX player. I am in the process of converting them to DVD files. For that, I use Avi2Dvd, which does an OK job, but it is painstakingly slow.

Any recommendations from your treasure trove of knowledge, would be appreciated.

    Thanks again.

The file type extensions are missing from your file names.
Go into the control panel, (classic view)/folder options/view

Make sure "hide file extensions for known file types " is UNchecked.

    My mistake.

I see what you are saying.

Here they are, copied after I UNchecked "Hide extensions for known file types."

    Das.Boot.miniseries.original.uncut.reevel.cd1.of.3.srt
    Das.Boot.miniseries.original.uncut.reevel.cd2.of.3.srt
    Das.Boot.miniseries.original.uncut.reevel.cd3.of.3.srt
Das Boot Miniseries Original Uncut-Reevel CD1 Of 3.srt
Das Boot Miniseries Original Uncut-Reevel CD2 Of 3.avi
Das Boot Miniseries Original Uncut-Reevel CD2 Of 3.srt
Das Boot Miniseries Original Uncut-Reevel CD3 Of 3.avi
Das Boot Miniseries Original Uncut-Reevel CD3 Of 3.srt

    Hope that makes it.

    Thanks again.

    Attar, Davexnet,

Thanks a mlllion for your help.

    I got it.

I went ahead and downloaded the torrent again, and there they are, the three CD .AVI files.

I guess I mistakenly deleted it, and couldn't understand how I had only CD2 and CD3 in .AVI versions, but not CD1.

I thank you for your willingness to help, and I promise for next time not to be so dumb before I post for help, first checking and double-checking before I open a thread.

I have learned a bit, however, about .SRT files, with the added benefit of becoming a member of Afterdawn.com, and part of the interaction of yet another sharing community.

My apologies for wasting your time, and thank you both very much.

    Best regards,

    Jaragua

PS: I still would like to know your suggestions about an AVI to DVD converter. Thanks both of you guys, you're terrific.

You're welcome. That's the most confusing file names I've ever seen
in a download. As you said, each avi has two associated
    SRT files. For example:
Das Boot Miniseries Original Uncut-Reevel Cd1 Of 3.srt and
    Das.Boot.miniseries.original.uncut-reevel.cd1.of.3.srt

I looked at them in Notepad, they seem to be identical.
Presumably so are the other two pairs or SRT files.

    You're right!!

That's what was driving me nuts!!!

Fortunately, we have solved the little .SRT mystery.

If you have any suggestions for a better AVI to DVD converter than Avi2Dvd, the one I use now, I'll appreciate it.

    Thanks again, Davenext!!!

Have you taken a look at DVD Flick ?
It encodes the files, authors the DVD, even a basic menu if you
    want it.

Thanks, Davenext, for your prompt answer.

I am already converting "Das Boot CD2.SRT," to DVD.

    Appreciate the tool.
