I want to make an .iso file that is 4.4 GB and then burn it onto a dvd+r at the slowest speed possible (2.4x). Can anyone suggest some easy to use programs I can use for this purpose?

I've been using Nero Express 6 to backup files onto dvd+r but it failed twice. I'm using SONY 8x dvd+r disc (YUDEN000T02) but Nero can only let me burn at 6x or 8x and not slower. I have an old PC (Pentium III 733 MHz, 256 MB RAM) so I want to burn at a slowest speed possible to increase my successful burn rate. Thanks.

Theres really no point of taking files, making them into an .iso and then burning it. Most programs only allow you to take a CD/DVD and make an image of that. Try compiling them into a .rar if you want them all in one file. There are many different programs you can use to burn DVDs, just try the one that came with your DVD burner.

The point of making a .iso file for me is to be able to burn it at the slowest possible rate for my dvd+r (2.4x). My Nero Express won't let me burn at 2.4x speed, it only let me burn at 6x or 8x speed (which are too fast and lead to coasters). So there is no software that will let me burn at slowest speed? How about WinISO or MagicISO, I heard you can make .iso file by adding files on the hard drive, true?

I dont know since I have never used those programs, but you can always download them and try them out. I still think you are wasting time, because why cant you just burn the files instead of having an iso?

    Hi there,

What DVD burner do you have ?
What firmware revision is on your drive ?

Maybe your burner firmware is old, it might need a firmware upgrade to recognize better new media and know how to burn them !

Were you ever able to burn slower with other media ?

I think you are going to find the same results with burning an iso as you would normal files.

I have SONY DRU-800A dvd burner with firmware KY01 the first one that comes with the drive. How do I upgrade the firmware? On SONY's support site is says:
    # Before executing firmware update, uninstall any packet writing software, such as [DLA], [DirectCD], [B's CLiP] etc, from the PC.
    # If you are using the DRU-800A, disable [DMA setting] in Windows before executing firmware update. For details, refer to [Help and Support] in Windows.
But I'm not sure what to do. What softwares are consider packet writing? Do that include DVD Decryptor, Nero, Alcohol 120%, CloneCD? And how do I disable DMA setting in Windows?

I've never tried other media but I have successfully backup a ps2 game under DVD Decryptor using 2.4x write speed on the Sony 8x dvd+r disc.

Backing up regular computer files at 6x speed under Nero lead to 2 success and 2 fail dvd. They failed because of read error. Will updating the firmware fix the read error and make my Nero program write at 1x or 2x speed?

    Hi there,

    http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/dru800adwn.htm#dwns

Latest firmware for your drive is: KY05
    You are 4 versions away.

Will it let you burn at 1x ?
I don't know any drives that you let burn at 1x, most of them will burn 2x.

I would definitly upgrade to KY05.

    Disable DMA ?
This is the 1st time I hear about this.

NEC suggests I uninstall my SATA Accelerator Software which I have never done and I have flashed 4 drives without a problem.

My 2 cents... (I AM NOT RESPONSABLE IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG) these are just suggestions !

Dont they just make iso of the disc in the drive? Or can you drag and drop files off your harddrive?
