I was wondering if anyone knows how to pull the tray out without damaging anything, i tried to open my drive but couldn't figure out how to pull the tray. My drive is dead an won't eject so that;s why i just want to play around with it and maybe it will work
underneath there's a little plastic black tab that kinda sticks out almost to the edge of the case. You can push that in and the tray will come out. Also there's a little black rubber band piece that usually causes the drive to stick closed, you can take that off, clean and boil it for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes and it should work again
I haven't had the patience to clean/boil the rubber band. What I usually do is take a small knife (in my case, a 1" keychain knife), and slide it in at the center (horizontally) of the drive, above the tray (silver part), but under the metal top of the drive itself. Then gently tilt it left/right (bending up the metal top of the drive slightly) and wiggle it, and then hit the eject button. Usually that will make the drive eject after a couple tries. I don't know why it works, but it does. Just make sure not to stick it in too far (you could scratch the disc), or twist too much, which might damage the drive.
