Hi All, my problem pertains to motherboard compatibility. My motherboard has full support for the E4500 and only has beta bios for the E4600. I've been having freeze ups every couple hours. I'd like to change the cpuid or something to get the cpu recognized as a E4500. Does anyone know if this sort of downgrade is possible? The two seem similar enough to me. Thanks in advance. Asus P5B-E Plus bios v.0627 Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 2.4Ghz Corsair 2GB TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX GigaByte Radeon HD 2400 Pro 256 MB Antec 430W
according to this link, your board can handle faster cpu's. http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5B-E Plus can you manually underclock the speed down to see if that resolves the problem? are you certain it is not something else thay is causing the problem like ram, videcard or psu? what is the cpu temp at after restarting when it freezes?
I guess I really should run more thorough tests. It is true that it is capable of handling fast processors but there is only beta support for mine. I feel I have to hold that suspect for now. I know of underclocking but I am talking about the MB actually seeing it officially as a E4500. Any additional advice would be greatly appreciated since these are all new parts.
