How to edit tv shows to cut out the junk (commercials & wasted stuff before & after the show)?

I’m not sure if this is the proper forum, but I couldn’t find a better place to ask this question.

I just bought a dvd recorder (to record televisions shows).

I managed to burn onto both dvd-r and dvd-wr discs.

So, here is my question. When I record I usually set the timer for a few minutes before and after my show to make sure that I don’t miss the beginning or end.

However, if I record onto one of the dvd-rw discs, eventually I will want to initialize that –rw disc and re-use it again. Therefore, unless it is just a basic show that I will only watch one time, I will want to burn this copy onto a dvd-r, but make it clean (no wasted few minutes before or after the show (and maybe even delete the commercials)).

What is the best way to do this?

I only use dvd decrypter and dvd shrink when I burn backup copies of movies, so I don’t want to buy and/or learn anything new if I don’t have to.

Can I just reauthor my dvd-rw disc in the same manner that I do to movies? If yes, then it would solve he situation of wasted minutes before and after the tv show, but how do I delete commercials (other than hitting the pause button while the show is recording)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Good Luck!
You'll have to load the file onto your computer, hopefully in mpg format, then edit it, then resave it, then author it and burn it.
If it's not mpg, but it's in .vob's, then you have even more work to do.
