I have found hundreds of threads and programs to shrink the size of a dvd movie to fit on a standard 4.7 disc, but no where can I find any information on how to fill a 4.7 disc when the movie is short (about 3.3 gb) I use dvd decrypter to download the movie and then the same to back it up on dvd-r...however there is left over unwritten space on the disc. I need a way to fill out the unused space and instructions how
Once a DVD-+R has been burned and finalized it cannot be written upon again. If you use DVD Shrink, in re-author mode you can drop and drag additional items to the dvd and make a compilation DVD. You will not have any menus and the disc will play the items consecutively on your DVD players. You can find DVD Shrink guides here at Afterdawn. Here is a guide from an older DVD Shrink version, but it still applies. http://www.dvdshrink.info/reauthor_basic.php
I want to keep the original movie, menus subtitles and all, the problem is that it only takes up 3 gb of the disc...I need to add dummy files or something in order to write over the unwritten part....I just dont know how to do this...I also heard I could have a longer finalising of the disc or leadout but I dont know how to do either...all suggestions and help is greatly appreciatted
You can probably add stuff in the disc outside of the VIDEO_TS folder. You may have to do a mixed compilation, but your dvd player will not read anything extra on the disc, only a PC would (kind of like DVD-ROM features). If you want to put two movies on a disc, then you need to re-author the movies and make your own menues, which may take a very long time for extras and stuff like that.
I don't understand why the unwritten space is bothering you if you are just looking to add dummy files.
I know it doesnt affect the playing fo the dvd however I want to fill the disc up in some way...I dont want the unwritten portion to show on the bottom of the discs...I have several discs I am giving as gifts this coming christmas and dont want the unwritten part to show on the disc
as i said they are gifts so I want them to look the best they can...its not like I want to appear cheap giving burnt movies to relatives
I understand what you want to do. I have never seen anything written about expanding the size of a DVD. You should research different DVD Re-Authoring and Rebuilding programs. http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/
Spatrick, how are you going to make them look like they are originals. Do you plan on printing out labels or what? Also I don't think they are going to notice what the bottom of the dvd looks like.
Even on pressed original store bought dvd's you can sometimes notice the left over space at times. Not all dvd's use the complete disc. When you burn a dvd it will be finalized when finished. Since they are write once discs there is no way of adding anything after the first burn. You would have to add blank files at the end to fill the disc if possible which could cause playback or compatibility problems if not done exactly right. As stated I don't think it would really matter what the bottom looks like. Jerry
Try what I suggested. Have some programs or something in the main directory or some superhuge document. When you explore the DVD, it will have VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS, and some garbage. I am pretty sure a DVD player will only look for the VIDEO_TS image and will not care about the other stuff. It is worth a try. At most you will waste 1 DVDR. You can also try it on a DVDRW disc. Also, I do not know how compatible DVDRW discs are, but those do not show anything on the bottom. All you have to do is a Full Disc erase. This will take about 17 minutes, but it will write over the entire disc. After that, burn what you want and it will not show.
