Please forgive me if this is in the wrong thread/forum

I want to back up my dvd's on dvd-r discs all I care about is the picture quality, can anyone suggest the best method/software to achieve my goal?
I am currently using dvd shrink 3.2 with dvd decrypter 3.5.4.0. shrink says 100% of the movie will fit but the quality is not the same as the original.

    This is my method

    1) let decrypter read in iso read to put the movie onto hdd (read rate 4x)
    2) open shrink then let it analyse
    3) deep analaysis if need be (if not 100%)
    4) let decrypter burn (iso write) to my dvd-r disc 4X speed
I use eproformance discs ( very good brand)

    Thank you for any replies

Also if you don't care about the special features and menus, you can backup the main movie only with DVD Shrink. Or in full disc mode untick all audio except the AC3 5.1 and all subtitles. Create a custom compression ratio on menus, special features, and unrefernces materials by moving the compression slider bar all the way to the left.

By the way...what's the movie you are backing up?

The title of your thread is kind of misleading. A true 1:1 copy would need to be done in most cases with a dual layer burner. There are some dvd5 original movies that will fit on a single layer blank but any of the newer dual layer 8.5gig movies need the dual layer blanks to make a 1:1 copy(exact duplicate). As the other members stated, Shrink, Nero Recode or Clonedvd 2 will all compress a dual layer movie to a single layer blank but its not a 1:1 copy anymore.

Thank you for a speedy reply

Clonedvd works fine but anydvd says my 21 day trial has ended! I have never used anydvd on my computer so how can it say my trial is over?

Can you buy these products in a shop or is it online only?

    many thanks

I am backing up my dvd collection. for this I am doing movie only, as I dont care about all the extras. Even though shrink says 100% for copying just the movie the quality is not the same as the original.

Sorry to confuse you all I am not very good at explaing things.

movie can be split to two disks in clone dvd.

    # Chapter cutting: You have the possibility to cut off unwanted chapters or to split one movie in two parts. Click on the scissors to open the control element for cutting off unwanted chapters. Another bar appears below the play bar. The small points symbolize the chapters, the space shows the approximate length of each chapter. You can move the blue triangles to cut off unwanted chapters. Either you click on the orange bar to move the blue triangles step by step or you directly drag it to the chapter where you like to have it. The Play Slider above automatically moves to the position of the triangles so that you can watch the first movie scenes from each chapter. The green writing in the preview window shows you the chosen chapter and its play time. On the right hand side, in the title selection, you can see the chapter selection with each title
    # Splitting: If you want to copy the whole DVD or you want to copy a movie with extra length, it is advisable to split it over two DVD media. First of all you have to select “preserve menus” for keeping the overview. Via the “chapter cutting” function you can split the main movie in two parts while selecting for example the chapters 1-9 for the first DVD media. Select now further titles like “Special Features” and start the copying process for the first DVD media. When the copying process has finished, please click on the “Back” button until you reach the window with the title selection. Please click with the right mouse button into the title selection dialogue: You can invert your selection for the first DVD media, like in this example, it means that the chapters 10-16 of the main movie and the rest of the titles will be automatically selected

    Hi there,

If you really want to be picky on the words, you will probably never be able to make a true 1:1 copy.

Will you copy the movie with 100% quality ? YES !

    Will it be a 1:1 copy ? NO !

I say NO, because if it was a true 100% 1:1 copy, you would have to reproduce the CSS Protection, the Sony ARccOS Protection, Week Sectors etc...

I know most people mean 100% video quality when they say 1:1 but like I said, if you want to be picky on the words, just like a lawyer would do :)

My 2 cents... (Will I really give 2 cents to someone ? NO hehehehe)

Just use the dual layer disk and that will solve your problem - I beleive Jerry stated that also.
