we don't have a hdbox here in our region so what do i do in order to improve my channels? does a cable booster work?
You need an OTA (over the air antenna)but won't get all the channels you want in HD. And it depends how far you are from the source. How are you connected now?
What is your source? Coax from wall? No sat tv available? Man, you're missing out on HD. Also a list of your equipment would help those who are trying to help you. cheezzzz
I'm also curious about an HDTV antenna. I currently have a regular dish network box (non HD) and would like to purchase the rabbit ears so I can pick up the local HD programming. Two Questions. 1.)Will the HD rabbit ears work with a non HD dish network box? 2.)If so, can I pick up an HD signal that is approx 65 miles away in Houston?
try doing a channel scan on your tv, let it search for channels and see if it finds any digital channels. It should run a search for analog channels, as well as a separate one after that for digital channels. We don't have a cable box, the TV just has a coax cable running into it, but it has a built in tuner, like most HDTV's these days, and our local channels come through in HD (CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX). They are on strange channels, like 79-1, 79-2, 79-3... May or may not work with your cable provider, but its worth a shot
To get your local stations in HD from your cable provider your TV must have a built in QAM receiver/tuner. If it does not you can add a seperate receiver. The Samsung DTB-H260F can receive OTA HD (ATSC)signals, and decode digital signals from some cable providers (QAM). The Sony RDRVXD655 recordable DVD/VCR combo can do the same plus record programs to DVD, or VHS tape. For transmitters that are a long way off you will need an antenna that is UHF/VHF capable mounted on the roof, (it doesn't need to be a "HD", or "Digital") and depending on how long the cable from the antenna is, it may need to be amplified. Most of the digital channels are UHF, and that might be all that is needed.
