im trying to learn how to remove viruses/spyware like you guys so i dont always have to post up my hjt log evrytime i get a virus. how do you guys do it?
by knowing what we are about... and sometimes using scanning software or sites.. like this one.. http://www.hijackthis.de/ read and learn.. and mostly know what is good and what is bad.. and FYI .. hjt won't pick up one of my bits of malware unless you rename it.. yeah.. I build them to hide from it.
you are going it the wrong way, you need to learn how not to get infected in the first place. The solution is simple 1. firewall (inbd/outbd) protection (many free versions available) 2. antivirus (recommend avira free version) 3. browser (use only firefox 3.5) , stay away from internet explorer. 4. Returnil (free version) this virtual software will isolate your hard drive from the internet when enabled. Nothing will defeat this software. For the past 3 years I've only used the above software and have never suffered any permanent damage. Returnil has always worked as a last line of defense. Not once have I had to spend any time looking for virus or malware. When you reboot, returnil deletes anything that occured while you where on the internet. Virus/malware that might have infiltrated your computer will dissappear. Removing virus/malware is a job best left for experts, the times in the past before I discovered "returnil", I would spend days fighting viruses and many times I couldn't remove all of them. I learn it's best not to get infected.
I have read through these recommendations and have a real sticker of a problem. I try to boot in safe mode but can not due to some software problem. I can not run any virus removal/scan software as the bug I have refuses to let it open saying it is infected. Antivirus live is the infector. I run Firefox but it keeps opening Explorer. Anyone have any suggestions how I get out of the grip of the infection? Thanks. Ams
Try going to avira and download there rescue cd,(download on a clean pc)this will clean most of it up so then you can use your own av to clean your pc,http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=82163.then Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop. Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan. • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <-- Don't forget this. • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
