Hi i have a DVD recorder drive in my computer it is a dvd double sided recorder..the questions is : i have a lot of old DVD movies i am so afraid that they will be damaged and i will not be able to watch them..i want to make a backup of these DVD movies using my DVD drive..so can you tell me exactely how i can do that..and how can i break the protection on my DVD movies so that i can backup these movies...by the way how can i buy double sided DVD from the market cause all the DVD disks it is not written on them that they are double sided .. Regards...
As far as I know only DVD-RAM is double sided and you do not want that. If you are talking about DVD Dual Layer (DVD+R DL or DVD9), then you can buy these at places like Best Buy, Microcenter, or online at something like supermediastore.com. These discs are pretty pricey still but are going down. For copying movies, you can find great guides on this site. But here is a way to do just about any movie for free to a normal DVD5 disc: Download and install DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. Rip your original DVD with Decrypter in ISO mode. If the movie is larger than 4.36 GB then you will have to open the ISO with DVD Shrink. After a quick analysis, you will get a screen with the movie features, and menus. Compress the Menu and Extra Features as much as you can. Also untick any extra audio channels that you will not use (like Japanese/Spanish audio and Subs). Then look at your compression on the main movie. If it is 65% or higher click Analysis. After it is finished, click backup and use the ISO mode and Burn with Decrypter option. If the compression is below 65% or you want less compression, you must either reauthor, and only include the main movie (no menu, features etc...), or change whatever is not needed into a still image. Either way, the Deep Analysis feature is great and will greatly improve quality. Last, but not least, use good quality media. My rule of thumb is DVD+R made in Japan. If you cannot find any of this, Verbatim makes great media. Hope this helps and don't forget to check out the guides here.
nade you need the two programs jaguar mentioned. dvd decrypter and dvd shrink. 1st open up dvd shrink and select the open disk option then select the disk then once shrink reads the disk select the compression you would like then hit backup select image then let shrink make the image. 2nd affter you have saved the image then run dvd decrypter and burn the image to a disk..
