Hi all I have a question for you all Networking Expert out there. Im running a small networking at my house. this Network consist of 3 computers : My computer, My sister's and My mom's. My computer act as a Network Harddrive, I share a lot of Files in my computer. Sometimes my sister like to pull over some files from my computer, but there are some folders where i dont like her to open. Im thinking to Password Protect a certain folders, so whenever she or my mom open those certain folders a pop up will show up asking for password (im thinking to password protect because sometimes I need to able to access those folders from either my mom's or sister's computer) Is there anyway to do this? third party Program? all computers in my network running Windows XP.

An easy way of doing it .. is with a small program that will encrypt a file -- a folder or even a complete drive !

This program is not well known but is FREE -- it's called Easy Crypto
((Version 5.5 Free of charge for personal use)) -- available here :- http://www.handybits.com/easycrypto.htm

Once installed , all you have to do is right click a file, or a folder..and select Encrypt -- put a password in -- and it's done. You the only one that can decrypt that file or folder !

    Good Luck !

U can also try 7-zip, which is GNU LGPL licensed (Open Source). It has a type-in password protect option when archiving folder into a zip file. Find it at: http://www.7-zip.org

i think instead of password protect the folders, u should jus hide em... wen u say "Share Folder/File" (or wateva) u get to choose a shared name, at the end insert a *

doin that makes it invisible to the others on the network... but, to get it from anutha comp on the network u havta type in command...

usualy something like this without brackets "yourcomputername/hidden folder*" and that will bring the folder up... i dunno if u already tried it... but its a good lil thing...
